Looking to buy a .223 Tikka to get my 7 year old grandson started deer hunting. We will pretty much always be hunting from a blind so weight isn’t a concern.

I am looking at 2 different models:

I typically lean more toward heavier barrels but the super varmint rifle is $900 more that the Lite. What am I getting for $900 extra other than a heavier/threaded barrel and adjustable check riser? I will be shooting suppressed so the barrel will have to be threaded if I got the Lite.

100% Tikka T3 lite compact vertical grip with UM rings and SWFA 6x milquad mil/mil and Blackhills 77TMK.

ZERO debate!

The t3x lite compact has the shorter stock great for kids or you can add the spacer it comes with if you like to make a normal stock

Chop the barrel and thread it for a can and make certain it’s equipped with a can for the kid before they start shouting.

You‘ll be amazed with the functionality and terminal performance of the platform.

I recently bought an SWFA 2.5-10x32 ultralight for a 10/22 rimfire and I am hugely disappointed in it.

If the fixed 6x is anything like it in terms of glass I will not be getting one of them.

What’s the matter with it?

Lite, he still has to move the rifle. Add weight to the stock if you need to.

The 3-9HD has better glass but is hard to come by right now.

I have the heavier barreled 223. It’s a brute compared to the lite. To me it’s more of a varmint gun then a suitable field gun.

As others have said I’d go with the lite.

Alright Lite Compact has been ordered. Now what upgrades are recommended?

Vertical grip, stock pack to get cheek height, lots of ammo to practice. :) Might add a 2nd T nut for a pic rail if that’s your flavor.
