if i apply for a unit that has several units listed together do I have to hunt in the one I applied for or can I hunt in any of the ones listed?
Does this apply to regulations for other species as well? Just trying to decipher the regulations.

Thanks

Can hunt in any unit listed. Note that refs will specify only portions of a unit may be open for a specific hunt code. It does apply to other species as well

Omg, not sure you want that. Lol. Just trying to wrap my head around your regulations. Makes me dizzy. However the more I study them the more it makes sense. One question I have is archery season I see, muzzy season I see, then I see rifle 02, 03 and 04. When is the 1st or early rifle season. As well what would you say the best species is to hunt for my first time. Bear, moose and whitetail I have here. I'm thinking Muley, Elk or pronghorn. Between my sone and I we would prolly buy Elk, mule and bear tags if the seasons align. Furthermore I am thinking 2nd rifle season. Its more my type of weather I believe.

Thanks

If pronghorn is a goal, start getting points in Wyoming. That’s where you want to go. Super easy and fun hunt.

Lol. Definitely no problem asking questions if I can help out. Maybe you can return the favor if I ever get the chance to head up north for some moose. The regs for new states/areas always take some time to learn. I hunted Montana this year and their book is very different than ours. As far as what to focus on I'd say it depends on the type of hunt you want. If you truly want a "mountain" hunt there are a bunch of elk tag options. Many areas are Over The Counter (OTC) for archery and 2nd and 3rd rifle seasons. 1st season is draw only and elk only and is also a short (5 day) season. This year it was November 10th through 14th. You're seeing so much 2nd and 3rd stuff in the book because of the OTC options, but you'll notice the 1st season stuff listed by each unit(s). Deer is another option. Later can typically be better if you can get a tag; but there are options from archery, muzzle, 2nd - 4th rifle. If you really are interested in 2nd season you should be able to do deer and elk together depending on the unit.

Check regs for each hunt code, per species. Hunts are very specific and particular. A cow elk hunt for a particular unit may include another unit BUT the next season or a bull tag might not include that particular additional unit. Read the regs carefully - there are lots of exceptions to that general answer to your question.
