AA headlamp?

Home Depot Energizer. unbreakable little rascal. Save your money for something else.

Except for the sliding switch. Must be careful it doesn't get turned on accidentally. I prefer push button switches.

Again, not to derail the thread, but neither the Zebra or the Fenix have red light. Do you guys just use white and not concerned about night vision/game seeing the light or have you rigged up some filter of somesort? I currently run a Princeton tec that I really like but I'm looking for other options that include a red light/filter.

My old Fenix HL 30 does have a separate red. It's also AA and has great battery life.

Fenix and Petzl both make some good quality headlamps that run off AA's. Fenix HL20 is good and so is the Petzl Myo.

Thanks, guys! I should have been more clear about my comment, I just meant all the zebra's and fenix lights that had been suggested didn't have red light. I know there are plenty out there that do so I was mostly curious if it's just a feature that most don't care about.

i can't speak only speak from my experience with whitetails but white light doesn't seem to bother them. i've walked within 20 yards of deer on my way to a stand and shined right at them and they'll just stand there. they have no idea what i am and don't spook. once i get to my spot i'll switch over to red while i'm digging around in my pack for things. partly so i don't alert anything and partly so my night vision can recover.

Do you guys that use the Fenix hl lights have any problems with the light falling out of the clips? I've been looking at them but have been leary of them because of the clip.

I used a Petzl for the last 3 years and it was rock solid (3 AAA). This year I switched to the Zebralight H52Fw AA Floody and it is awesome. I have never had an issue with white lights and Whitetail Deer.

Bline, if you look at the link I posted the picture shows the light housing goes thru a metal ring then the tail cap screws on to hold the light to the head band

It can also use the 123 battery which gives it more lumen and longer life I think.

+1, x2, and all that. I love my H52w.

I had never even looked them up, I've been a black diamond guy but now you guys have my attention! On that note, I have multiple black diamonds, including the aa heavy model and I love it. Mainly because it's damn near impossible to trigger them in your pack by accident
