I’m currently in northern Montana chasing spring bear. Yesterday April 30th I left some of gear at a NF camp site near seeley lake to save my spot. When I got back to my site all my stuff was gone

Fortunately I didn’t leave anything extremely valuable but I lost the following :

Recovery gear like a small shovel and a tow strap
A vevor diesel heater
Rooftop storage bag
Black north face duffle
A Sitka light hoodie
Sitka pants
tan stone glacier pants with a tear in the seat and crotch
lots of dirty boxers
A roof top tent ladder
A camping chair
a blue jug of water
a pair of hoka trail shoes
And other generic clothing items.

All in the aforementioned large storage bag

I know getting them back is a pipe dream and it’s my fault for leaving them, but I just wanted to make anyone up in the Missoula area aware if they find some gear up for sale at methedup prices.

My entire life growing up and as an adult we always left a camp chair and maybe a cooler to “hold the site”. The intention was to be a quick visual courtesy to others driving around looking for a site. Never have I had a problem with theft in campgrounds over 45 years. Last year that changed when someone helped themselves to my camp chair. Luckily that was it but lesson learned. The unspoken rules of camping and courtesy are unfortunately gone. I’m sorry to hear you had a more costly lesson.

Dang sorry... that was your stuff??? I figured all that stuff was left behind and I wanted to keep the woods clean. if you venmo me $100 I can return all your stuff washed cleaned and folded except that one thong you left hanging from that tree. I'm wearing it and it's very comfy

Yeah, next time just buy some crap from a thrift store that you can use to mark your site.

At the same time this shit has gone overboard here in Colorado. You will pull in to an area on a friday morning and someone's camp chair, trash tent and other garbage will be laid out in one of the primo sites and the people that left it there usually won't show up until 2am saturday night/sunday morning.

Sorry to hear that man. Some of my gear got jacked in Aurora last season. I reached out to a few of the vendors and they gave discounts to replace gear.

Its easy to mock op for his misfortune but that doesn't change that it sucks for him. And it could have happened to any one of us. Its not new either. 20 years ago our entire group left chairs around the firepit at the campground while we rafted. Came back to camp and my chair was gone, the only one with a name on it. Unfortunately common courtesy is not a human trait. Never has been. OP, sorry someone took your stuff. Even more sorry our community are jerks sometimes.

Yeah.....the seeley/swan valley campground (and disperse site) scene has gone completely off the rails. People attempt to "claim" or "save" spots days and weeks in advance or leave a pile of shit that they think entitles them to return at their leisure and continue on their pilgrimage. It's rarely enforced or even policed.

Maybe it was the USFS Rec Dept cleaning up and hauling out what they figured was abandoned.

Welp, sure nough ya knowz, likely some crackhead stole those skid marked undee`s! Probably so meth`d up that it probably looked like a used tootsie roll wrapper on a hot day and he/she ate them.
