A hypothetical: for a US "Big 3 Deer Slam"

Does the Coues deer count?

  • Yes!

  • No!

If you're separating Colombia BT from mulies then I'd imagine you'd have to separate Coues from Eastern WT's as well. Having hunted both, Coues are a completely different style than Easterns and I wouldn't put them anywhere near the same category.
Blacktail (along with WT) is the ancestor of Muleys.

Would love to get after Sitkas, but the hunts are like a billion dollars
What? I did Sitka DIY for dirt cheap. Tags are OTC, not guide needed, and tons of deer. One of the cheapest out of state DIY hunts you can do.

I can’t figure out if your just trying to get a rise, or just to uneducated on this, but doing even a little research seems like it would do you a lot of good.

I was referencing guided, which approach elk pricing (at least the ones that I’ve researched). ;)
With me, what you see is what you get. No hidden agendas.
EDIT: I must admit to being a tad disappointed with the few snarky remarks that I’ve received here.
I am here to learn. If that bothers you, just put me on ignore. Problem solved

Yeah, I’m really not sure why some people are acting so offended and so butt hurt about your inquiry. Maybe they have not been able to get out much and they are feeling pent up??

A coues is a whitetail subspecies so, YES, it counts. Do your slam without any shame or need to justify anything. Show us your deer when you get one!

If you really want a whitetail, come to Texas or Arkansas and I’ll get you on one for free.

If you come to Washington make sure you have a bear tag. I’m filling mine easily every year by spot and stalk, they’re everywhere cause the department won’t manage them. And partly due to that we’re seeing less and less blacktails every year. I’ve seen more bears than legal bucks the last 5 years.

In my mind there are a lot more deer than 5.

Northern Mule Deer Plains Type
Northern Mule Deer Mountain Type
Desert Mule Deer
Burro Deer

What do you mean by burro deer? Never heard of them...

Name of a Sonora desert muley subspecies.
I knew that, but didn’t know that it is also an alternative name for muleys, in general (which makes sense).

Don't forget about Columbian Whitetail. They are in Washington and Oregon, but can only be hunted in Oregon

If you know a guy who says he has horses and you go over to his house to find out its a couple Shetland ponies in the yard, it would feel a little off. Technically he's not wrong, but when you think horse...
I feel like a lot of people back east would say the same about a coues deer on the wall if you said you had a killer whitetail mount. Not that it's demeaning the hunt, just not the same thing.
