A hole Shed hunters

It’s WAY more than just shed hunters these days. Everyone thinks they’re so entitled to do whatever they freaking want whether that’s riding an ATV off-route looking for sheds or just being to damn lazy to hike during hunting season and driving the UTV in to their elk kill. Even mountain bikers, fisherman, and hikers are ignoring clearly posted private property signs because they don’t give a shit anymore…wtf

I found a 4 wheeler parked miles from a legal road one September. It took everything I had not to remove his spark plug wire. The only thing that stopped me was was what if they were super old or disabled?

My thought was to hand the plug wire to the forest service and tell them where I found it. Unfortunately I would have probably got a fine for theft or something stupid.

Why are people so disrespectful to the land and regulations?

Worst thing that happened to shed hunting was commercialization and social media making it cool. I remember being able to find a shed or two long ago and it was cool we took it home and talked about it. Now you got people piling up truck bed full for the gram or resale. I hate to say it but a ban on selling might help with the machinery, seems like those trying to get truckloads are probably the ones driving off-road and such too.

Forest service needs a hotline you can text with a pin to report these things.

A hot line if the forest circus is around any longer.
Brings up an interesting thought, can citizens not press charges? Picture evidence and a GPS spot, in theory the ATV would have a registration sticker assuming they don't ignore that law too. Maybe the community needs to step up and find a way to make things happen.

I sure miss the days when it was legal to drive an ATV to downed game on NF. The one trip in and out days were the best, nobody making crazy roads everywhere but still usually able to get in and get an elk out in one trip. We didn’t road hunt and didn’t feel like the devil it appears we were from reading here.

The days before the shed craze were cool too. I once found enough to fill my shortbed pickup after I filled my elk tag. Not sure why I always kept them, still have dozens in the attic of the shop, but they were fun to find.

No consequences for bad behavior.
Plea bargaining and prosecutorial discretion lead to tolerance and societal acceptance of antisocial behavior. See NYC, LA,Houston, etc.

True.
You could remove the word “shed” from the first sentence and it would still be true.

No one, including the OP, even knows if this was actually a shed hunter.
Perhaps some transference from a shed hunting OP? Alot of different people have both reason and authority to moto access at different times in different places. Many will not find vandalism to their machine funny. I keep cams on my rig. Most back country Karens don't actually know the whole story, just noisy and nosy. For real though the shed hunting sub forum should be called" A-hole shed hunters"

Maybe it’s people that are generally new who post this (or make the asinine remark, “well you don’t have to come if you don’t like it!”) but this problem has only become prevalent in the past 15 years.

Public land anything is just about over. Yes, there were problems before but not anything like it is now. Collective action issue at its most literal.

I’m shocked that now even shed hunters are experiencing it.
