A group has hacked into Russian streaming services Wink and Ivi (like Netflix) and several Live Russian TV Channels and is steaming Ukraine footage.

That’s funny until you realize our systems are no less vulnerable.

We should rightly question everything we are seeing in the media about the situation in Ukraine. But where does it stop? We have seen enough in the American media to suggest even its reporting can be untrustworthy. We have access to more information than in any time in history and yet we should be more skeptical as well. Strange times.

This the complication within journalism. We want to trust the frontline journalists with the footage being provided yet it becomes nearly impossible to fact check in a timely manner, especially if you want to be the first to release it. Then add in the concept of social media and the entire system becomes ****ed.

If I lived in Russia, I'd want to see what was happening on the front lines. The problem though as stated.......who knows what footage you're getting anymore, especially if they're hacking in to show it.

On the flipside, if the Russian people are only getting fed carefully controlled propaganda anyway, their perspective of these events will only benefit from getting a dose of the opposing propaganda.

The conclusion that “Russian propaganda is of more benefit than Ukrainian propaganda for the Russian people” makes little sense in this scenario if for no other reason than the contrasting information forces more people to confront the notion that they are being fed propaganda to begin with.

Good for them!

It's in everyone's best interest that Russians see what's really going on. Ukrainians are not welcoming Russians as liberators, just the opposite.

Their Russian fathers and sons are dying over there, right alongside Ukrainians- might as well have the truth vs some bs concocted by Putin's minions.

Seems as though all news is propaganda these days. Everyone is always pushing something......other than the truth. Discernment is also a lost art......or gift on most these days as well.

Fairly certain this has always been the case and history is written by the victors. Understanding bias is essential to forming an opinion on what you read or hear.

Yeah, I was going to say something similar. It’s not as if there wasn’t significant and prevalent propaganda around 9-12, the Gulf war, Vietnam, Korea, Both WWs and even the Civil War.

This one is a bit different because it’s unfolding in real time via social media that is feeding mainstream media content.

I had lunch with a Russian buddy over the weekend (he recently returned from a trip there to see family), and he shared with me that the Russian media really strikes an "us versus them" tone and essentially portrays Russia and the US as the 2 pre-eminent world superpowers duking it out over good and evil. As a result of this, most Russians believe Americans hate them. He and I laughed a bit as we both know that - at least prior to the Ukraine situation - the average American put very little thought into Russia or the status of the Russian people. But that is not the narrative spun up by the Russian media.

It is encouraging to see Russians demonstrating for peace, I guess they are getting enough alternate information to challenge the government line.

They need to slow down on the Vodka. Russia and USA the two superpowers… USA GDP: 20T, China GDP: 15T, Russia GDP 1.5T.

Putins dreams of grandeur are going up in smoke and they will soon experience 3rd world poverty like Venezuela. I hope they sober up and string him up before he kills more people and takes his country into the dark ages. Regardless of how quickly they depose him they need to experience pain and misery, the Tyrants in the world need to understand the consequences of their grand dreams.

Interesting modern social experiment to see how long a society can tolerate being deprived of PornHub and OnlyFans before overthrowing their Government. There’s never been a war fought like this in the history of civilization. It night just work.

With all the disinformation coming from all media outlets I would caution everyone to Watch The Left Hand

This is the perfect opportunity for bad things to happen when everyone is looking elsewhere
