Hi all,
I came to this site a while back and have lurked for a while but mainly looked at the drop tests done on various scopes.
I have been running a Leupold VX3i on an Antonio Zoli .270 for the last 10 years with disastrous accuracy/consistency and was never sure if this was due to scope or rifle. I ruled out the scope by swapping scopes and had the rifle re-crowned, re-bedded and various other odds and sods seen to by the only person in South Africa that is willing to actually guarantee MOA after accurizing a rifle.
It now shoots a touch under MOA and playing around with 130gr Barnes SSTX looks promising (lower weights of Barnes not available here I would love 110gr) However prior to sending away I became completely disillusioned with ever getting the rifle right and bought a Berretta BRX 30-06 (left hand shooter) and taking into account all the info gleaned from the drop tests on the site I bought a Trijicon Huron. (It took 6 months to receive my licence in which time I sent my old rifle away and bought the scope for the new one) I must say that the glass is not quite up to Leupold brightness in low light but is adequate.
I was at the range on Saturday and went forward to check targets and when I came back to the bench, found the range officer holding my rifle. "I have bad news" he says. "I don't know how but your 1 month old rifle fell off the bench!!"
The rifle had fallen scope first onto the bare concrete table top (judging from the marks on the scope) and then 1 meter to the concrete floor covered in fake grass. It looks like it landed on the side of the rifle when it hit the ground.
I set back up on the bag and aimed same poa and was gobsmacked to see the poi was indentical to the last and subsequen rounds all where they were expected.
So a heartfelt thanks to all who cvarried tests carried out the drop tests on this site that led me to Trijicon for maintaining poi through thick and thin!!
Now to get Barnes 168gr to shoot clover leaves consistantly, it is an expensive business giventhat they are double the price over here than in the US.

Cheers Brent

I agree with this sentiment. My rifle fell over 2 feet onto rocks—scope first—-when a sling stud failed during a bear hunt. Right onto the turrets of a Maven RS 1.2.

And an hour later, the target bear came out. 540 yard shot. Dialed and bullet was right on target. Maven RS 1.2.

If not for this site, it would have been a Leupold and I would have surely needed to re-zero.
