I am taking my first spot and stalk blacktail trip this fall and am in need of advice on a pack system. I have a Badlands 2200 that has served me well for my midwestern whitetail hunts, but I think I may need something a bit more substantial for this trip. Here are my needs:
  • Carrying a day's worth of food and water, first aid kit, emergency tarp, flashlight and kill kit
  • Ammo
  • Layers and rain gear
  • Tripod, glassing pad
  • pack out 1/4'd deer in game bags
Any recommendations or considerations will be appreciated.

Are you backpacking in ? Or hunting from camp ?
I run a 5500 and carry enough gear for a 5 day trip and haul a whole buck out but not both . What is your goal . Where are you hunting . Tell us more about your trip

I wouldn't overthink it, there's hundreds that would work for you. More info would help, but based on what you've said I'd go with something in the 48L range.

Big difference in early season CA blacktail, and later Oregon blacktail....

Will be hunting from a camp with expectation of returning to camp every night. Goal is to carry all of my equipment and be able to carry out a 1/4'd deer, if manageable. Further goal is to not burden my hunting companions with carrying too much of my stuff. This will be 1st day of season in Alaska- so August 1st.
