A 308 Hitting a Deer at 500 Yards is….

FWIW-The 168 grain ELD-M seems to be open up a just bit faster or is a tad more violent compared to the older 168 grain A-Max in the 308 Winchester. I know they changed the tip. I would still use either for the same tasks.

I shoot the factory 168 A-MAX Black load exclusively in my .308 Tikka. Cheap ($30-35/box), acceptable accuracy, and destructive wound channels.

308 vs 30-06. 150-165 grain bullets give the 308 the advantage. 180 or heavier, advantage goes to the’06. Just my opinion, not trying to derail the thread.
In what way would a 308 have an advantage with 150 or 165 grain bullets? With equal bullets/loads, the 30-06 will always produce more velocity.

According to some of my reloading manuals, the velocity of the 150 and 165 loads is about the same. The advantage of the 308 is the shorter lighter action for the same performance.

So basically you light load the 30-06 to bring it down to the 308 performance. Got it lol.
