9mm Bear defense pistol ammo?

9mm +p hard cast in 147gr will work for both black and brown bears.

Both 9mm and 10mm have similar penetration when using hard cast ammo at decent velocities. You aren’t using hollow points generally in either for bear defense just due to the variability in penetration.

So, unless you feel that extra 1mm is going to make a crazy difference, you won’t actually find much difference between 9mm and 10mm, and real world tests as well as ballistics testing has shown this.
The tests I have seen show the 10mm absolutely beats the 9mm. The key is making sure you are using good Full Power ammo like Buffalo Bore or Underwood. A lot of companies under power their 10mm to the same velocities as a 40 cal.

Buffalo Bore states their Outdoorsman penetrates 3ft in 10mm and 4-6ft in 9mm.

You will not survive unless your strapping one of these bad boys below with a full auto sear for effect. Your going to need at leat a 30% hit rate to let the bear know your there minimum. I carry a G26 with a g19 mag in it. I dont remeber what bullet it is.

Black bears arent overly agressive creatures. I had a co worker who was bow hunting and he jumped a bear and it litterly ran him over trying to escape. You ever been ran over by a bear lol. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1...fj9wVcx04byy6GYYj1Hn6gOABXIu6HncgS&pid=900268
