I shot this group with factory 108s...shooting too fast, in the dark and heart rate was up.

I was also like 200 fps slower. What is the max coal in your rifle?
I just checked my jam point (didn’t do this before cause I was waiting on modified case) and can chamber a round at 2.894”. I’m guessing the excessive jump is why TMKs won’t shoot in mine.

Edit: I read through all of this again and saw some of you mentioned lands and seating it longer. I did shoot a quick group of 5 tonight right before dark at 2.78” and it shrunk almost in half down to 3MOA. 4 shots in 1.25 and one sailed high. I think @Nine Banger and I have the exact same issue.

Yeah, barrel can certainly just hate a bullet. My Tikka doesn't like MB 112s. Target on the right is the 112s, left is 108 ELDM. I was playing with different charge weights. As velocity increased the 112s just opened up more. I about packed up thinking it was the rifle or scope, but decided to give the 108s a try before leaving.

PBB 1:7 Hybrid Lite 16.25". I'm installing a PVA 1:7 .680 taper less 18" next to see if it can shoot the 95s.

Now I’m thinking I shouldn’t put this PBB barrel on if I want to continue to shoot TMKs. Loading for 243 may be more involved than buying factory 6 creed but I’d hate to ditch a barrel that works

I wonder if the saami freebore of .199”.183” is going to make for some finicky 6cm barrels with the 95’s.


@khuber84 didnt you have a 6cm barrel with a much shorter freebore that shot them well?


I measured the barrel I had at 2.845” to the lands with the 95’s, and boat tail at shoulder neck junction was 2.665” if I recall correctly. I did get it to shoot 5 shots for around 1” at .070” off. But haven’t messed with the barrel or cartridge since.

I loaded 95 tmk with H4350 in a Preferred 6CM prefit, McGowan 6CM prefit, and a factory Tikka 243 barrel. All shot as good as anything else (around 1.5" 10 shot groups). Just seated boattail at shoulder junction.

I know it’s not quite the same but my 1:8 tikka .243 likes Varget much more that 4350 and h1000 with the 95 TMKs.

Any idea what kind of velocity you are seeing? I’m struggling with the 95’s in my 243 but never considered trying varget. I have a short barrel so want to hopefully find a loaf that’s still plenty fast.

Yeah I had a 0.100fb barrel, 18in. Rl15.5 pressured out at 3200fps, 3080-3110 is where it liked to be.

Saami 6cm freebore is 0.183, ideal for long heavy bullets.

What are the chances that the TMK's you got were manufactured wrong? Some type of, albeit slight, imperfection in the batch you are shooting? That possible @Formidilosus?
