I wouldn’t hesitate to look for a good set of used Leica Ultravid HD+ 8x42s. I have the plus version after doing a ton of research and they really are brilliant. I hunt here in Alberta, and in the mountains I still tripod mount them and have no problem finding game. Paired with a spotter they are great! I love the FOV, and light gathering ability, they suck up light like a sponge. Extremely clear as well. Even if I had the choice to go back and switch to 10x’s I wouldn’t.

Last year for high country muley hunting, I put my 10x42 Slc’s on a tripod for the first time. Loved them! But then I hunted elk and used them less than half the time on the tripod. I noticed the hand shake more than ever. It was frustrating. I sold them and bought the 8.5 el’s. I can’t see switching back. If I didn’t have a nice spotter, than I would have probably stuck with the 10’s.

I have been using Nikon's MONARCH 7 8x30's for 2+ years now and love em. They hang well off the neck and are great for dark cover. They always got with me for scouting and turkey hunting. At under $400 they are worth taking a look at. I put my Euro bino's in the safe the day I got my MONARCH 7's and then tried the MONARCH HG from Nikon with the field flattener. Definitely worth looking at if you want a wider field of view in the 8x42 range. I'd consider a chest harness for carrying any full size bino around.
