Not a particular jab at you, just an FYI. Aside from desert bighorn, it looks like CO hit the residents much harder than the NR with these 2019 changes. Obviously the total dollar amount is still higher for NR but I challenge anyone to show me a state that doesn't operate that way...western or otherwise.

CO resident tag fees 2018 to 2019:
Deer increase of 28%
Elk increase of 19%
Pronghorn increase of 28%
Bear increase of 21%
Mountain Lion increase of 21%
Moose increase of 20%
Mountain Goat increase of 20%
All Sheep increase of 20%

CO NR tag fees 2018 to 2019:
Deer increase of 75 cents
Elk increase of 75 cents
Pronghorn increase of 75 cents
Bear DECREASE of $249.75!! (71%)
Mountain Lion increase of 75 cents
Moose increase of 75 cents
Mountain Goat increase of 75 cents
Desert Bighorn increase of 50%
RM Bighorn increase of 75 cents

That's true and that was done design. By increasing the tag fees for residents (who hunt yearly or close to it) they'll make alot more money. They don't want to raise tag fees too much for NRs because then fewer would come hunt, especially OTC which is their bread and butter. But, where they can kill it with NRs is in the app and point fees. If NRs already have a substantial enough number of points CO can charge whatever they want and everyone will pay it. That's where they are sticking it to NRs way worse than Rs. Over $400 for NRs to apply for everything, not hunt just apply, is where NRs are really getting hit harder. NRs that aren't hunting OTC are going to rarely pay tag fees and they know that.

The CPW is regulated by the Denver/Boulder yearly CPI as to how much NR fees can be increased

Remember it's only $400 if you're applying for the big 3. If a guy only wants to chase elk, it's a quarter of that.
As a resident, if I buy my annual combo license, it will cost me over $200 to apply for the big 3. The divide between R and NR isn't that large when we're talking application dollars.

That's it I'm boycotting WY and CO, they suck, out to screw the nr hunter over with their point creeps.

MT too, just paid over $1800 to apply for an elk and 2 deer tags. Am I doing the boycotting thing right? What's next NM going to make you buy a nonrefundable license? They better not or I'll boycott them too.

I'm just glad everyone was on here whining. If not I probably would have forgotten to buy points, thought deadline was later.
And that would have increased your draw odds. And nobody wants that.

Ratbeetle, I was talking about the process of buying preference points. Not necessarily actual tag increases.

Like I said, I'm happy about supporting wildlife and those who do so for a career.

I also make money, therefore, not a full douchebag, just partial

I think you are a step short of the norm for proper boycotting, you need your hashtag_______________________ to finish up.

Wyoming’s nuts, I don’t apply for much there besides general elk and when I want to hunt pronghorn on no points.
I don't mind it. Coming from PA, a state where the game commission is severely underfunded due to not raising the license fees, I don't mind paying a little extra to gain the points if it will increase the quality of the hunt when I finally get there. If the money I pay is not going to benefit the wildlife, then I got a problem with it. On a side note, any one know a good unit for squirrels?
I love this attitude! This is why its 800$ to apply for everything in Wyoming. Keep it coming boys!

Isn't it way more then $800? I don't know.

I remember when I first started applying in wyoming being like oh boy that unit is 3 points with a type 9 tags, well I have 5 points now and it was 9 this year! I'll still always put in for elk in Wyoming, I'm just burning them next year on a unit then going for General from now on. Kick ass state all in all, just not putting down 4k on a bison.

How is it $800? Does that include buying points? It must, because it doesn't cost much to apply for deer and elk.

Colorado is middle of the road if you apply for more than one species. Heck Wyoming is over $800 non refundable to apply for and build points for all species. And I used to think AZ and NV were expensive with the non refundable license costs.

Not the tag. I think hes saying applying for all tags and point fees. Not tag fees. All states return the tag fees but in reading some of the comments on this thread maybe they should keep that too as a lot seem to be happy paying more more more

Despite what some of u think paying more more more isn't gona help ur draw odds. There will always be plenty that are happy to pay it just to be in the game

Your post here makes more sense and I do agree

Anyways, my point with what I started with in the article is that buying points to buy points is one thing, to have a sound strategy that you know you'll either be hunting that unit with those points in 1-4 years 5-10 or 15+ and knowing where draw odds don't change at all just because you bought points is pretty crucial.
