7SAUM vs 7PRC....Click before you judge

I’m sorry to be a nag, but nobody has answered my question. Will you have problems running a 7 Saum in a long action?

There are no common problems.

Adjusting the mag may be a little necessary, because no system we tweak is ever perfect.

SAUM will shoot but you'll be teetering on the edge of pressures. SAUM is a short action but if you want the speeds, you'll want a medium or long action so you can seat longer bullets
PRC will do a few more FPS than the SAUM without worrying about pressure

My 7SAUM is 18" on a short action, with a SAAMI chamber, shooting 175 ELD-X at 2760 MV. If you run the numbers, it is terminally capable to distances that most of us (myself included) have no business shooting game at.

The only advantage I see of the PRC is factory ammo. Otherwise, you're just forced into a long action, burning more powder, introducing more recoil, and getting more speed that isn't needed in all practical hunting scenarios.

PRC makes sense if you want ammo and/or a rifle off the shelf, but the ballistic "benefits" it offers aren't really needed, and don't come free.
@Mark at EXO , what COAL are you loading those bullets to? Using a M5 DBM? thanks

Was debating the same. Maybe someone could chime in who actually has one, but UMs short action Vesper and xl magazine allows 3.150″ Inside Mag length. Which should be enough to squeeze a 180 eldm with a little wiggle room.
According to UM, they have no feeding issues.

You don't necessarily need to spend Vesper money to get the UM XL dbm into a short action. The new igniter, bumblebee and a few defiance actions are being cut for it. The Vesper is nice but the price to performance, well you can get same performance for less in other places if a few oz extra weight isn't a deal breaker.

3.150 is plenty for the 65 and 7 saum to run heavy for cal bullets seated optimally. You'll just need the freebore in the chamber to do so, 0.200-0.225 is pretty common for 180gr bullets. If you run eldm the coal will be quite a bit shorter than say a 180 hybrid as the bearing surface is mucj longer and a shorter nose profile. I have a 65saun with 156s loaded around 3.100 coal and the UM XL dbm works perfectly.

I found out the hard way you can’t get a 6SAUM to feed in a long action. Not sure I would try it with a 7 either. Short or medium would be my vote.

Shooting mate has a long action 7saum, Bat HR, hawkins hunter long action mags with their spacers in the rear. Feeds like a champ.
