I am looking to purchase a new 7mm Remington Magnum rifle this week to serve as my all around big game hunting rifle. I have extensive experience with the chambering and just haven’t found the rifle I like best for it. Will be used for deer from box stands primarily, but will also be used for hogs and western big game - mule deer, pronghorn, and possibly elk.

I am looking for an all weather rifle and am leaning towards one of the following (no love for tikka):

Browning x bolt 2
Bergara wilderness ridge
Christensen arms mesa
Winchester 70 ultimate shadow

Not a big tinkerer, so looking for a turnkey rifle. Already have my optics.

Thanks

Buy whichever one you can get the best deal on.

In my opinion, choosing between those is pretty much like choosing which chocolate glazed donut you want, Dunkin, Tim Hortons, Krispy Kreme, or a gas station donut. They will all work (taste) pretty much the same.

If you hand load… I have an X bolt 7 RM I bought in maybe 2020. Fast twist 1:8 it’ll spit 180s at 3100 fps if you push it. You can load pretty long. That one and my Tikkas that guys in here made me buy are my favorites.

1. Browning X-Bolt 2
2. Bergara Wilderness Ridge
3. Winchester 70
4. Anything other than Christensen

In that order.

Do you prefer top loading with a floor plate, or a magazine?
If you prefer a magazine do you want it flush with the bottom?
Do you want the bolt locked when safe?
Do you prefer side or tang safety?
Do you have a preference of finishes on the steel?
When I asked myself these questions it narrowed my choices down pretty quickly. They all have the same potential to do what you need them too, its the details that make it comfortable to hunt with.
