7mm Rem Mag in 150gr ballistic tip. Enough for 400yd elk?

Ballistic tips are good but you need a better Bullet for elk. They just don’t have the penetration.

my question is,, If ur shot misses the mark and you end up shooting something farther back (guts),, would you rather a ballistic tip devastation or a bonded bullet pass thru? The same theory kinda applies to archery hunters between the choice of expandable or fixed blade broadheads. You can kill elk with both if you find ur mark but when it doesn't what would you rather have... and don't come at me with practice more or i never miss, etc.,, anyone who hunts long enough has it happen.

I like BT on deer and I've probably killed a dozen with them. Personally, I would never.....never use a BT on an elk. There are better bullets for elk.

Double lung will put anything down. I’m a 7mm guy and have never had a problem unless I hit something hard that far. I use 160-170 just because that’s what my gun likes. Shot placement is most important

I shoot a hollow point boat tail and haven’t had to track my last 3 bulls I stopped shooting for the heart after I tasted one. Shoot through the ribs and pop his lungs

Piling on what's been said previous. We learned to avoid ballistic tips for elk. My son took a large bull at right around 330 yards with 150 gr. BTs out of a .280 Ackley. I had been hesitant but rationalized that they were the newer upgraded BTs with stouter jackets. 3 shots, 3 good hits, 2 into the shoulder, third a double lung. I found both of the shoulder hits while butchering the on-side shoulder, mostly just jacket. I decided we wouldn't be using them on elk any more, upgraded to partitions or accubonds. Love them on antelope, though!

if you like 150 gr, check out the 154 gr Hornady ssts I have had very good success with them on elk in my 7mag….the key is accuracy and how they shoot in your setup. Good luck 🤙
