Have a Rem cdl sf 7mm rem mag with 9.25 twist. Tried several loads. 175 grn partition with retumbo and rl22. Then hornady eldx 175 with retumbo and rl22 also. So out of all 4 loads groups are terrible. Like 3" 100yrd groups bad. So i look and have some factory sst 162grn hornady blems. Shoot about 1" 3 shot group.

Anybody else have trouble with 175's??

Gonna try some berger 168 next. Had shot some factory HSA with those bullets and they shot well.

Any suggestions?

Could be the twist which is on the slow side for 175's. Could simply be your gun does not like those bullets and/or powder. I always found R22 to be a great powder with 175 smk and 162 amax. Retumbo accuracy was only so so. R19 was good for the 162, a bit fast for 175.

You could always ladder test and see if you can make them work. There are so many variables to reloading, try to eliminate as many as possible. You could try a box of factory 175's as a control.

Stabilization has to do with a bullet's length, not weight. So while the ELD might be too long, the partition shouldn't.

But really, both should work since the SAAMI twist rate for the 7mm Rem Mag was designed for use with 175gr bullets.

If you are dead set on shooting 175's, grab a box of Sierra Game Kings and see what happens. Also, RL25 is a good powder with the heavies.

Lots of guns don't shoot partitions particularly well. If the ELD's are like most match bullets, they might be a bit finicky too.

Point being, I'd experiment a bit more before concluding the twist is the problem.

We had the same problem with my buddy's 7mm RM. it would not shoot 168 gr HSM trophy (3-4" groups at 100 yards). We switched ammo and it was acceptable (1 MOA).

My "go to" load for my Browning A-bolt 7mag for years was 175gr Partitions, Federal brass, Federal 215M primers, and 62.5gr of RL-22. They'll hammer the 8" gong at 600 yards, and consistently put up sub-MOA groups at shorter distances.

I went through the same problem with my 7mm Rem Mag. Tried the powders you mention with the 175 Partition with mediocre results. Then tried some loads with H1000. SUCCESS big time! Went from a 2.5"+ shooter to a consistent sub MOA. Same H1000 works great with 160gr Partition and Accubond.

I'm having great success using H1000 behind Nosler ABLR 175gr, out of my STW as well.

Load that thing with 160 grain Accubonds or Partitons.

The load that worked best in my buddy's 7 Rem Mag was as follows:

IMR4831 @ 63.0 grains(Max load)

Primer - Fed215

160 grain Partition

It produced <MOA accuracy with a SD of 6.6 and max spread of 13 fps. His max speed was 2826 fps out of his 24" barrel. FWIW, factory Federal ammo w/ 160 grain Partitions only produced 2850 fps with >MOA.
