7mm-08 Rem success on big game

Various Low Country Bucks with a 700 Mt. Rifle and a GAP NT. Many more but I had these pics handy. 140 NABs and SGKs have batted 1.000 for me since the late 90s. Very well could be my favorite WT cartridge!

Here is another with some necropsy pics.

Big GA pig killed with the same 7-08AI load as my previous post (162 grain ELD-X at 2785). Shot was 216 yards. He went about 40 yards into the thick stuff and died.

First pic is entrance, second pic is exit

I've seen my wife use her handy little 7mm08 on multiple animals. Her first deer was with one and shes been using it ever since. The load of choice for her is a mild 120 gr barnes ttsx and its been phenomenal on game. Its not a fast load since my dad hand loaded it to reduce recoil even further out of the 7-08 which is almost comically non existent. Shes taken multiple deer at various yardages between a few feet and up to about 150. All have been bang flop or very near to it. Same for the antelope. I like the gun and load combo so much that i try to steal it all the time. Barnes 120 ttsx and that little 7-08 can do almost anything id ever need it to do. 1000004379.jpg1000004377.jpg1000004376.jpg

I've bought a Tikka 7mm-08 as my first gun and have been using it for 16 years now I think. The gun has taken over 20 mule deer and whitetail with none of them going far. Farthest shot I have taken is ~415 yards. I keep thinking about upgrading but would rather spend my money on upgrading the rest of my hunting gear at this point.

I haven't killed with mine yet, but I had my daughter out to shoot my reloads last night for her upcoming cow hunt. Her first 10 shot group with the new rifle (after shooting 50 rounds of .22LR to brush up on technique) was 1.5 MOA at 100 yards. I was ecstatic! She also went on and on about how she hated shooting the "old .308". LOL! Loving the 18" Tikka a little more every day.

My wife's gun has such little recoil that it's almost comical to watch her shoot it. She has and can shoot bigger, but she shoots the 7-08 compact so well I just can't see why do make her

I started using this caliber because I saw a post about a Savage LW Hunter. The accuracy and how light weight the rifle is. I picked one up and fell in love with the gun. I then found the hobbit rifle thread and happily went down that rabbit hole. Currently using a TC Encore with a Custom 18” MGM barrel. Both are very accurate with factory Federal 140gr. Accubond. One shot success.

One of these days I’m gonna have George build me one…

Easily one of the most underrated calibers on the market. Everyone around here calls it the "girlfriend or kids" caliber...but take a glance at the ballistics and think again, I've only taken a handful of whitetails with mine, all sub 250yds. Its a phenomenal round and is my go-to for everything smaller than elk

My daughter killed this bull at 477 yards. He dropped in his tracks and found the bullet lodged in his opposite side hide. Remington 700 youth model. 150 grain ELD-X being pushed by Varget. It’s an awesome cartridge.

Sweet, congratulations!

Nice stuff, I'm getting ready for Texas with my new 7mm 08. 150 gr. core loct 2780 + -. Handload. Good to see the longer shots on Elk. I prefer closer but not against 4-500 yrds. either.

Very nice!

What’s the muzzle velocity? I’m at 2780 with 46.2 gr Big Game and a magnum primer.

P
I’ll have to take a look at my notes when I get back to them. I know I loaded it a tad slower to help with recoil, she’s not a very big person.

Last thing I want her to do is develop a flinch because the rifle is punishing her. Accuracy trumps magnum everyday!
