7mm-08 Favorite Loads!

I shot a lot of 162 Amaxes over RL-17 out of a 22” 700 Mountain Rifle, Faux Ti, at about 2650-2700 and that load really carried the mail.

Also shot 140 NBTs over ‘17 in the same rifle at around 2800 and those worked well on a few bulls and bucks.

One of my favorite carts for sure.

I've been loading for 7mm-08 since the late 80's but haven't worked up anything new in a long time. The guy I bought the rifle from owned a gun store and had it built for himself. It has a 23" Shillen (sp) barrel. One thing he told me was this gun did not seem to develop high velocity. He also recommended H414 powder. My pet load:

48.5 gr H414
NBT 120 gr
Midway nickel brass
Fed 215 primer
2750 fps

This was my go to blacktail gun for decades and shot numerous pigs with it too. Early on I fooled around with 140 and 160 bullets, but then bought a 7mag and loaded it with 160 NAB's so I wanted a spread between the two guns. If I'm going on an out of state mule deer hunt and thinking I'll be shooting at some distance, the 7mag is my usual choice.
