Hey what’s up everyone. Looking at getting a new 72hr pack for the new future possible deployment. Criteria being that I need to carry between 20-40 pounds max. 72hrs worth of gear. Comfy to wear. Be able to carry more if necessary. I bought a 5.11 72hr and hated it. Sloppy bag.
The bag also needs to be coyote in color
Bags I’m looking at at

Mystery ranch Pintler
Kifaru hooligan
Kifaru 22 frame and bag

My military members, what suggestions do you have.

Kifaru. That's what I've used. get the frame, that way you can always load up for longer patrols/ extra ammo (don't know where you're going, but I always liked being able to carry extra stuff.)
The pad on the hipbelt that sits against your lower back can come off for when you're wearing body armor, so I always found it to work just a bit better that way.
I don't have any experience with the mystery ranch, but some buddies were running those, and really liked them as well. I just prefer kifaru, especially for a mission/ 72 hour ruck.

If you wear armor the MR Bvs nice frame is worth looking at. For that mission parameter an overload or a SATL would suit well with more capacity if you need to load it up a bit more.

I like the SATL but only comes in multicam. Needs to be coyote. The overload looks similar to Pintler.

You would recommend the 22 frame with 22mag bag?
Any preference to Kifaru bag?

Kifaru , call them and let them get you set up. Customer service is outstanding. The few times Ive called , they’ve lined me up.

I spoke to the man himself lol. He advised me on the 22 frame/mag combo being a favorite and also the hooligan being built for these purposes.
I’m just trying pick others minds and see what they use or recommend. Definitely gonna make the investment cause I’m not carrying that 5.11 bag again.

I cant remember which bag I used, I'm running a Reckoning now, but the 22 mag would definitly fit the bill.
5.11, I have found, is great for LE work (my current job) but not as great for military stuff.

Tons of coyote satl packs floating around. eBay and several shops sell them lightly used. $200-250.

Overload has about 10 more liters capacity and a lot more organization than a pintler in adition to being far more stout. The .mil line is built heavier and heavier duty in the US so it costs $$$. Materials are berry compliant and low IR signature throughout as well as using more standard hardware to facilitate repairs. Don’t get me wrong, the hunting line will handle some wear and tear but I recall blowing out 3 Alice packs along with a dozen frames, shoulder straps and hip belts in my .mil days. I think hard use military service is just a higher level of wear and tear and the MR hunting line wouldn’t hold up as well.

If your an organization minded person the TAG Recon ruck might work well for you. 2-3liter hydration pouches and I believe 8 external pouches with pals webbing on them, lid has a padded pocket for compact lap top or electronics and a internal radio pouch on the inside/back of the pack body. It will go on the MR frames. I have the pack body that I would sell but it is acu pattern. It comes from TAG on an alice frame.

I would look at the 14r if you need a true 72 hour bag or the x-ray if you want something a little smaller with no/optional waist belt.

Having a frame plus bag seems overkill for 20-40 lbs, but it would work just fine.

Stone Glacier R3, 3300 with hydro lid, weapon sling, and pull outs.

After a nearly two year eval with a bunch of dudes using nearly every suitable pack made, the R3 was WAY ahead on ranking for a 3 day plus pack.

Hooligan reminds me of our filbe with much appreciated side zips! I wonder how that stays /frame/belt/strap combo would feel compared to the down East external/eagle setup... the Hooligan frame dos t look like it’d sit comfy on a Sapi plate at all. Will you mostly be mounted or no?
