Taking my first rifle for a facelift - Remington 700ADL 30-06. It basically has been shot 5 times a year to check zero, and never leaves the house. Scored a great deal on remage barrel and black hills gold ammo, so away we go.

Picked up a Grayboe Phoenix and their M5 DBM.

What’s best options for 3/5/10 round mags for the 6 creedmoor cartridges in a long action?

In to see answers. I was wondering about using a cartridge like the 6 CM on a long action.

I think, but am not sure the cartridge would work without a spacer.

Is there a reason the normal MDT magazines wouldn't work? I prefer them without the binder plate.

I don't know. I'm ignorant on this topic.

I was looking at the Hawkins Hunter Mags and their spacer kit, but it is sold out everywhere. That seemed to be an easy button. Not sure what to go for next.

The hawkins hunter bottom metal is the one to get. You can run AICS or their hunter "flush" mags with it. I imagine their long action standard magazine would be the best fit. Go with the MDT AICS mags for the 5 and 10rd versions that you asked about. You might have to tweak the lips just a bit to get them to feed the 6cm consistently.

Do you know if the hunter magazine will work with the Grayboe M5 DBM?

I currently have no bottom metal - the one I picked up is for magnums - didn’t realize there were two options for the long action DBM.

So back to the drawing board.

I’ve got a Grayboe Phoenix inletted for m5 Dbm. I’ve got a Remington 700 Long action. I need to get bottom metal, for detachable mags or internal don’t really care, that’ll work with 6 creedmoor cartridges.

I didn’t think this would be such a struggle.

Hawkins seems to make the right kit for me. They also don’t seem to want to make it right now - sold out everywhere.

Any ideas?

have some fun and roll a 6/06 or 6-284.

Sticking a 1.92” case in an action capable of handling 3.6”+ doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me…. Plenty of good short actions out there for your 6 Creed project.

My build is very similar to yours in that it has a Grayboe stock (Eagle). Starting from scratch, I would get the Hunter bottom metal and mag without thinking about it.

What are you using on your rifle?

Are you referring to the Grayboe or Hawkins hunter?

I got a good deal on a barrel, and ammo, and the action is free. And I don’t want need more fun right now haha.

Keep looking.

Sorry,

I should’ve been more clear. It looks like the hawkins hunter LA Dbm is in stock places. Three problems:

Only accepts hunter long action mags. This isn’t ideal, but can tolerate it if…

Second problem, their spacer kits for LA mags are sold out everywhere.

Third problem I have to machine my action to accept their Dbm.

These aren’t unsolvable. It just seems like this should be easier. Lots of people shooting short cartridges from long actions from what I can tell.

Understand that free is appealing but sometimes making stuff fit where it ain’t really supposed to ends up being a goat rope and a sub-par end product.

If the action was free, that makes a long action 6mm sound even better to me as it frees you up to buy another barrel after the first is done….

I have an Original Action in 280AI in an Eagle stock. The bottom metal is Grayboe and I use the magazine at the bottom. It feeds perfect, but rattles a bit when it is empty.

I would much rather have the Hawkins system. I didn't know it existed when I bought the bottom metal.

The picture below is the setup, but it has my other Origin Action and a 270 barrel. My 280AI has a stainless action and barrel. The 280AI barrel is 2" longer than the 270 barrel.

(Two rifles for my two kids when they get older)

Do you see any difference in feed reliability coming up between the 6cm and the 280ai, with the setup you habe?

Check out the UM bottom metal and mags.

And to correct something, the hawkins bottom metal accepts their mags and all AICS mags.

Just keep the greyboe bottom metal you have and run AICS mags. But you might not even need the spacer kit for the hawkins stuff.

Gotta pick your poison. You're in a spot retrofitting all of this together.

Not the long action, according to their website. Unless they’ve updated this.

That's my bad man, I didn't realize that. Obviously i only have experience with the short action which using both mags with is a huge selling point. I wouldn't run it on a LA because of that.

Looks like you're stuck with a typical M5 bottom metal if you want the ability to run 10rd mags.
