Wanted to start a thread on velocities with factory ammo only. It appears that this cartridge is suppose to maintain velocity even with shorter barrels so I thought for those of us eager to drop below the 24" mark it would be good to see what you could expect. Please list barrel manuf, twist, rifling, length and ammo.

Bartlein #3, 5R, 1-8 twist @ 22"
175 ELDX
I am about 20 rounds fired and at the following. 2873 avg, 11 SD, 23 ES.....

I'd really like to stay on topic and keep this about data as much as possible.

Savage 110 22" barrel

Avg 2853 fps with a SD of 15. Similar to what others have siad.

This is pretty much where I’m at after 60 rnds, on one box of ammo I showed pressure signs and a heavy bolt handle, barrel is a 22” proof on a defiance anti. I’ll have to look at the lab radar but the 180 grn match was alittle faster and had a way lower es and sd

I’ve got a 7prc with a 24” benchmark carbon barrel. It shoots factory 175 eldx ammo at 2900fps. My handloads with h1000 at factory seating depth are just below max pressure in peterson brass at 2984fps average.

Also I’m 300 rounds into it and I shot some baseline ammo the other day from when I first got the gun and my barrel never sped up. I follow a pretty strict cleaning protocol where I do a basic maintenance clean every 50 rounds. My hypothesis is most people’s barrels “speeding up” are from lack of consistent barrel maintenance.

The Federal 175 Eld-x in my Christensen Ridgeline FFT 22" barrel have been averaging 2870 and shoot .5 moa and the Hornady 175 Eld-x in my rifle are just a waste of time (pressure signs and poor groups. So far a 175 Berger Elite Hunter with a max load H1000 have averaged 2942 and group .4 mao. Federal is also coming out with a 170 gr. Terminal Ascent in the 7mm PRC.

Same rifle and the Hornady eld-x has not been super accurate for me (ELD-M has been great however). Looks like the federal ELD-X has been more accurate for you?

The Terminal Ascent is out now. 3 boxes just hit my bench. Wish my rifle was ready to go.

Nice, been waiting for these 170 TAs - the Hornady outfitter wasn’t my favorite in the accuracy department.

Please report speeds as you guys are able to!

20” C6 with 120 rounds down. This is Hornady factory 175 ELDX from first production run that showed up. Interestingly, the same Lot # was available 6 mo later. IMG_3128.png

Any data sets from the Hornady Outfitter factory load of the 160 CX?

Faster twist and shorter case, just like all the other Hornady cartridges. Nothing that can’t be done with a custom barrel for lots of existing cartridges.
100% true IF you have a custom rifle and If you handload.
If you are a factory rifle/factory ammo guy then there is zero comparison.
