7 PRC Powder

Curious if there is a consensus on a preferred powder for the 7 PRC and heavy bullets yet? I've seen people say velocity is good with N565, but accuracy isn't as good as some others. H1K isn't as fast but slightly more accurate. I ask since powder is so tough to find I'd like to stock up when I find it. I've got brass on backorder and have some parts for my build on order, so I'm really needing to settle on a powder and bullet at this point so I can stock up.

The guys from @Unknown Munitions are going to be the best ones to ask. Wouldn't be afraid to look at some RL 26 too if you can find it.

There’s an article in the 2023 Hodgdon’s manual. Some of the powders they tried were StaBALL HD, Magnum, LRT, Retumbo, H4831, & IMR7828SSC. Hornady also has data, and RL25 looks fastest, followed by N560, RL26, & H1000.

I’m gonna use n570 and 195’s.

Lots of good powders between 565, 570 (24"+ barrel), staball HD, retumbo, 26, H1k.

If I couldn't shoot a few different and had to stock up I'd probably lean towards H1k. It's the H4350 in the bigger stuff. Temp stable and consistent even giving up 50fps. Good luck

Honestly I'd like to use the 195s, but I've heard some bad reviews. I can't figure out if it's a velocity thing or what. But it makes me nervous to use them.

N568 is a turd! N570 is the powder if you are shooting anything heavy for caliber.

I have tried it in a 300 Rum, 300 PRC, 28N and a 300 Terminator. It’s slooooow.

So n570 or H1K for a 7 PRC with a 22 inch barrel shooting either 180 or 195s? I'm thinking I'll have a +p too if it makes a difference...

I'll be anxiously awaiting a podcast on that. I guess maybe at this point I'll hope to stumble into n570, stock up on that, and then hope it works well for me. Worst case scenario I could use it for my 300 rum.

570 burns hot! The 7prc load I've seen is about 12gr less than my 7stw so you should get a cpl hundred or more rounds out of the prc.

Buy an xtra barrel, stuff burns hot!

They are like tires.

I did lose about 100 rounds of barrel life with 570 on my 300 Rum barrels.
