I have a 7 PRC with a 20 inch barrel. I would really like to use the 180 grain ELDM. I know there have been threads about loading for this caliber, but I would like some opinions on loading for this particular bullet with the shorter barrel.
Thanks

It sounds doable given the factor numbers listed above.

I don't have specific numbers as I don't yet own a PRC (on order) but I'll be starting with a 180 Berger Hybrid over H1k and 215s.

That's quickly become a popular combo for 20" PRCs and 180s to hit 2800.

Beyond that, perhaps some hens teeth (RL 26) or N565/570. Not a lot of personal experience personally, but they do out run H1k.

I also have tried N570. It was faster but not as accurate for me with that bullet. That’s in a savage ultralight.

I run an 18” but my buddies 20” runs 180 ELDM right at 2900fps with 4831SC. We both run the same load with great results, mine is just a bit slower of course.

I also have a new 7mm PRC on order. I bit the bullet and purchased a Seekins PH3 from EuroOptic when the first became available. 26" barrel, i'm hoping to hit 3000fps with 175gn. ELD-Xs. Book data would indicate that 3000fps is overly optimistic but @Lemhi 's post gives me some encouragement.

I should mention that I do not have any of that Gold in a Bottle also know as Reloader's Powder....

I would guess that you would be able to get pretty close to 3000 with the 26 inch barrel. Maybe with some N570.

I recently wasted a whole bunch of time on a 21" 7prc. Started out hoping to run h1000/175eldx but accuracy suffered with this combo. Ended up shooting 8-10rnd groups each of;
H1000, n565, n570, r26 and a couple r23
175eldx,180eldm, 175eh 180hyb.

N570 upper 2900's fps was achievable if you want to deal with vibrating/compressed load. Accuracy and es was not good in my barrel.

-H1000 primers were flat at 2800fps, not great accuracy

-R26 with had good accuracy, 2900+fps and best average es

-N565 was the most accurate with all 4 bullets, decent es at about 2860fps

-R23 had low velocity and poor accuracy

Any combo of n565, r26 180eldm &175eh would be fine for my rifle. R26 has better velocity and es while n565 has the best accuracy.

The 2 powders that I have on hand are H4831SC and N565. Sounds like people are getting pretty good results with both.

I'm hoping to bring this thread back to life! I'm looking at buying a pre-fit Proof Carbon (20 inch) for my build, and I'm curious about the velocities that guys are getting.

You put together any loads yet? I have a 24" barrel 175eldx and peterson brass and both h4832 and n565 on hand...

This is where I'm at currently. This is 64g of H4831sc with a 215 primer in Peterson brass shooting a 180 grain ELDM. It's a little on the slow side but I like the numbers. I may bump up the powder charge a little and see what happens.load.jpg

What brass, barrel brand and prefit or smith cut it?

So worked up a few loads with n565, imr7828, and h4831.
175 eldx, Peterson brass, 24" Weatherby markv

The 7828 was low 2900s but grouped decent.
N565 was around 2950 and nice groups
4831 was around 2930 but didn't group well.

Going to work up some more loads with the n565 and see what happens. Breaking in the barrell and new to reloading so only shot 6 rounds of each powder at 2 different weights of powder. 3/100yds 3/300yds

Loaded 7828 up to 65gn
Loaded 4831 up to 63.4
Loaded n565 up to 69.3 the 68.5gn load grouped really really nice.

Anyone using H1000?
This is 68gn H1000 behind a 175gn ELDX.
Easy bolt lift and zero signs of pressure.
