Im in the same boat with like 14 for elk and 13 for deer. Have not been out since 2012 and my buddy who took me is no longer going. I don't have a hunting buddy so I'm kind of on my own. Now at 65 don't know what to do but would love to have a nice mule deer on my wall. I have the same for Wyoming?

I would try to find an outfitted/guided hunt if at all possible.

I went to Harrisburg Pa sport show this past winter only 3 hours for me. You can find one there but be careful. I’m in to going to Missouri on a white tail hunt now and enjoying it don’t know if I will ever make it back to co or not due to my age. I went to co 4 years in a row first 3 to an outfitter that was decent but he got killed in a ranching accident. Then my buddy who organized it we went on a diy deal quit going so I’m out on a limb. I can’t hardly go by myself and just winder back in not practical. Then after doing a tent deal once will never do that again and at my age I’m not going to walk several miles even with an outfitter. Did talk to a couple that was appealing where they ride you back in on trucks or quads sounded pretty good considered one but price was like 7k. Good chance I won’t make it back but will proably still buy points Kind of hard to stop doing that never know when something will pop back up. I have a good outfitter in Missouri kind of pricy but fits my needs . He had quality deer 140 “ min. 20k acres leased well managed, good acomendations such as food, lodging, takes you out and picks you up from a nice enclosed elevated box blind, only a few yard to walk to stand then brings in your deer if taken. This is the route I’ll probably take the remainder of my hunting career.

Plenty of good mule deer hunting CO that doesn't require hiking miles into the mountains. Dont let yourself get too intimidated.

Yep eastern plains produce some monsters… typically they require a guide or a ton of time with boots on the ground and local knowledge

With 10+ points a guy could find some deer in easily accessible sage in the mountains.

True, depends on what kind of buck he wants, not picky he could find something decent in the sage, if he wants a biggun eastern co is the place to go

I learned long ago YouTube and Instagram are not real life! I saw one really big buck on this trip, too far to get an opportunity on, and two others in the back of pickups that were huge. Just getting out there and filling a tag with a mature animal in the West was a big accomplishment for me after years of trying.
