I also was unimpressed with the video. The 12 passes bit was from Jake talking to RCBS directly, he said it on S2H podcast.
Put all the reloading bit aside and assume people just shoot factory ammo. I agree it will fail/ flop soon unless they can pull off Hornady status overnight. The shelves at any 'outdoors stores' within 3 hours of me have vary little federal anything, what they do have is Hornady ammo and components. How long has their terminal ascent bullets been out? I have never seen it on a shelf, I look I reload I probably would have tried it in something. Time will answer the questions.
Just my 2 cents on the topic

It's rarely available as a component bullet on shelves but it's pretty common to see it in their factory stuff. You can order them online usually though.

Ok I watched the video. .284 170gn. bullet going 3015fps.. Thats what all the hype is about?
I'm confused. Why is the 7 Backcountry all the new rage? Was that a 18 inch barrel? That would be impressive.
From other data that's likely a 20in barrel for that velocity.

The problem is…you can’t find 210 primers easily…
Yes.

So the guys who are loading Lapua cases to the point primers are pretty flat and even leaking around the edges a little and etching a circle on the bolt face, have already been shooting at these pressure levels.

Anyone else catch the video Federal put out showing that their "alloy" case is reloadable? I think its all kinda BS and the video is missing many important details, all of which are the reasons people say its not reloadable. They also talk about the "premium" ammo cases are coated inside and out making them reloadable, but the cheaper stuff thats dull is only coated inside thus not recommended to be reloaded.

I dont know if they are thinking its a case stuck in die issue or what but they didnt show a single measurement of the case to show any sort of shoulder bump. I saw its taking 12 passes of a resizing die to get the case sized. This dude in a dorky lab coat does it in a single pass... no trimming or anything. just a video of the guy making a round with a sharpie mark on it and shooting it again.

Anyway, curious what the thoughts are of anyone who's seen it.
I had heard it was RCBS was having issues with resizing? The little guy in the vid made it look like no big deal.

There was word that RCBS had to make 12 passes to properly size a case and ultimately stopped their production on the die. In the video he mentioned it was a prototype die, so it looks like they got something figured out.

This cartridge has been marketed to have the performance equivalent or better than some of the current cartridges with cult like followings, the PRC is first that comes to mind, with standard bolt face, large rifle case length, and subsequent recoil produced, all out of a barrel short enough to use a suppressor in a usable barrel length. Basically a cartridge the size of a 280ai with the performance of the biggest 7mm magnums definitely is a game changer imo. Wether this all plays out is yet to be seen but theres no skin off anyones back if it don't. I really am not very interested in this particular cartridge but this same technology carries over to a short action 7mm or .25 with ballistics comparable to 280ai or hot 25-06 and I'll be having some rifles rebarreled.

i agree. i dont know how they are going to even keep up with demand honestly. They market the shit out of this round, get everyone all excited about it
This is good for business. Look at MKC.
and then they arent even going to be able to make enough ammo. guys cant reload their own.
Likely a temporary problem.
these rifles will be like every 6.8 Western rifle.. dying on the shelf.
The 6.8 didn't "die" from overwhelming demand and lack of ammo supply.
