Having a hard time choosing between a 6.5creed and a 6mm creed.

I have a 7 mag, 30-06, 25-06, and a 308 but wanting something for western deer, javalina, and other medium game hunting that doesn’t kick as much. My wife would be using this gun as well.

I know the 6mm has low recoil, and is flat shooting, but worries about ammo availability and the variety. I don’t reload, so would be dependent on factory ammo.

The 6.5 looks solid, has a lot of factory ammo, but has more recoil than the 6mm. Also looks like the bullets don’t fly as straight.

I tried to search around to get pros and cons but looks like everything is from a few years ago, so just curious on current opinions.

Looking at the Tikkas or Weatherbys.

Get the tikka over the weatherby. That’s a no brainer.
I think there are enough 6mm ammo options that you could find one that works.
The recoil difference is not huge, but is noticeable. If I had to pick one, it would be the 6mm, and I have had 5 different 6.5s and liked them all, I have sold 4 of them.

Thanks for the info! Do you ever run into issues finding ammo? What factory ammo do you like best? I’ve always liked the eld-x but open to others?

Either is fine. Plenty of ammo for 6 CM though.

PS - the 6.5 bullets fly plenty straight.

Get both! With the calibers you already have and intended purpose, I’d lean toward the 6 CM. You have a lot of heavy caliber stuff that’s more than sufficient for elk. You could even consider something on the lower side like a .22 CM or .22 ARC.

No, both the eldm and eldx shot well enough in my rifle I would have used either one of them for hunting. The 108’s were a touch better.
That was with factory 108’s.
I was just using the factory ammo to see what they would do and get brass to reload. I didn’t NEED to reload obviously, but it saved me money and I got a touch better groups. I have posted a few different bears killed with my 6cm on various threads. I would feel comfortable hunting anything in NA with the 6creed with the results I have seen.

Either is gonna do the trick.
6 or even 22 creed if recoil is of concern.
6.5 CM probably has the widest variety of ammo options avail currently.
6.5 CM is the only one currently offering some
Of the new +Peak go fast stuff if you’re interested in that.

I just had a fun weekend playing with guuuns.

Stole my buddy's seekins NRL 6 creed. 13# 15 oz. 109s at 3010 fps. UM reaper plus srs brake.

My OH NRL gun, tikka, area 419 brake. 28" c6 barrel. ~15# 12 oz or so... 25 creed 131s at 2930 fps.

Shooting 700 yards...I was watching bullets in the air easier with the 6 creed. Lighting was just right and you could watch the glint of the copper. Pretty neat.

I think a 6 is the way to go unless you are trying to hit PF for competition. But I would go with a 22 if legal.

I have three 6.5CMs and one 6CM. The one thing the 6.5CM has over the 6CM is factory +Peak ammo. I would hope that the 6CM will get +Peak soon but no guarantee of that yet. I'd personally lean 6.5CM for that reason.

You will get good husband points and have a happy wife if you go with a 6CM. If a 22-caliber is legal, also consider a 22CM. Another option might be a 6ARC or 22ARC.

No experience with a Weatherby, but years and years with a Tikka.
