Why are you so opposed to re barrelling? Thats the easy button if a 6 creed is really what you want. And you’d likely end up with a far better rifle than a Ruger POS.
I guess my thinking is a gentleman above has already confirmed a 6mm creed tikka is in the field being test, and I can get a stainless tikka barreled action for less than a prefit would cost. The closest smith to me is 3 hours away, and hunting season is in 3 months. I would rather wait and see what tikka releases next year rather than send one of my rifles off this close to hunting season and that doesn’t even count the time I have to wait for the barrel. A lot of these barrel manufactures have atleast a 6-8 week lead time at the minimal unless you pay them extra. Why are you so opposed to re barrelling? I can get a Ruger American Gen 2 for 520 bucks out the door. Yes I know, it’s a cheap, unreliable piece of plastic, but on the other hand a lot of guys have loved them and haven’t had a single issue. Also if I get one, I can dump it for like 400 bucks and not be out a crazy amount of cash when tikka does decide to release the 6mm creed in a ss lite.
In the grand scheme of things, I’m not in that big of a hurry as I’m not even home right now (I’m in the military) and I don’t get out til next summer. I was just hoping there were more options for a factory 6mm creed that I can put ln lay away at my LGS until I can pick it up in early November when I go on leave, but it seems like my only option is the Ruger. I was also hoping one of the SHOOT2HUNT guys would give me some inside on a 6mm Tikka (which I got something pretty close to that). As much as Ruger is hated I do appreciate them twisting their barrels correctly and giving us cartridges that are hard to get ahold of in most factory options. (22 arc, 6 arc, 6 creed, and I even saw a limited run Gen 2 22 creed). I wish tikka was faster getting these new cartridges to the market as I am a tikka fan boy as well, but they are slow in this regard. Again I think tikka is the best factory option sub 2,000 dollars. I don’t reload yet, but do plan on getting started in a few years when I have the time to get it up and running, so reloading a 1:8 twist 243 to shoot the high BC options is not an option. Also I’m not going to buy a rifle in a cartridge I don’t want. In all reality my 308 will do everything I want it to for now, but I also have the new rifle disease and usually like to buy a rifle on my annual leave period. Thank you for the reply.
