6mm Creedmoor hunting rifle (factory only)

Why are you so opposed to re barrelling? Thats the easy button if a 6 creed is really what you want. And you’d likely end up with a far better rifle than a Ruger POS.

I guess my thinking is a gentleman above has already confirmed a 6mm creed tikka is in the field being test, and I can get a stainless tikka barreled action for less than a prefit would cost. The closest smith to me is 3 hours away, and hunting season is in 3 months. I would rather wait and see what tikka releases next year rather than send one of my rifles off this close to hunting season and that doesn’t even count the time I have to wait for the barrel. A lot of these barrel manufactures have atleast a 6-8 week lead time at the minimal unless you pay them extra.

I can get a Ruger American Gen 2 for 520 bucks out the door. Yes I know, it’s a cheap, unreliable piece of plastic, but on the other hand a lot of guys have loved them and haven’t had a single issue. Also if I get one, I can dump it for like 400 bucks and not be out a crazy amount of cash when tikka does decide to release the 6mm creed in a ss lite.

In the grand scheme of things, I’m not in that big of a hurry as I’m not even home right now (I’m in the military) and I don’t get out til next summer. I was just hoping there were more options for a factory 6mm creed that I can put ln lay away at my LGS until I can pick it up in early November when I go on leave, but it seems like my only option is the Ruger. I was also hoping one of the SHOOT2HUNT guys would give me some inside on a 6mm Tikka (which I got something pretty close to that). As much as Ruger is hated I do appreciate them twisting their barrels correctly and giving us cartridges that are hard to get ahold of in most factory options. (22 arc, 6 arc, 6 creed, and I even saw a limited run Gen 2 22 creed). I wish tikka was faster getting these new cartridges to the market as I am a tikka fan boy as well, but they are slow in this regard. Again I think tikka is the best factory option sub 2,000 dollars. I don’t reload yet, but do plan on getting started in a few years when I have the time to get it up and running, so reloading a 1:8 twist 243 to shoot the high BC options is not an option. Also I’m not going to buy a rifle in a cartridge I don’t want. In all reality my 308 will do everything I want it to for now, but I also have the new rifle disease and usually like to buy a rifle on my annual leave period. Thank you for the reply.

Saw what i assumed was a scheels exclusive weatherby 307 with steel barrel and plastic stock around the $1k price point in 22 creed last week. Surprised me. I assumed if they were making 22 creed that they probably offer it in 6 as well but their website indicates that's not the case. 243 win and 240 weatherby..

I really don’t understand why more people are not jumping on the 6mm creed bandwagon. Seems perfect for what I would use it for. I’m almost tempted to get a mini action howa in 6mm ARC.

I plan to. I'm just waiting on Tikka to release one. The gunsmith I've used in the past moved off, and at this point, I've become less picky about the small details you get from a custom. So I'll just wait until Tikka releases a decent option.

A nice wood stock Browning X-bolt could get me excited as well. But it doesn't sound like they will beat Tikka with a 6 CM release.

I have a Ruger gen2 6 CM. I've only shot 75 gr VMax Hornady bullets in it. It is an honest 3/4" rifle 6-24 scope on it. I have a Savage 243 1-10 twist that is an honest sub 1" rifle. I have a custom Remington 243AI 8 twist that will shoot a bit better that the Ruger, it also has a 6-24 on it. If all 243 Win had a 1-8 twist there would be no 6 CM.

huh? That bandwagon seems pretty heavily loaded to me!

It isn't when a lot of the most common factory rifle makers dont have it as an option. Savage, tikka, browning, Bergara, etc dont offer it in hunting rifles far as I can tell.

When you start trying to steady the crosshairs on a 10pt at 550 yards, you’ll quickly realize a sub 7# rifle is too “light”. Weight is your friend for accuracy.

Most experienced folks western hunting rigs weight 10# and up and they walk miles a day with them.

I used to share your same opinion on wanting light rifles but now my main hunting rifle is 12# loaded out. But it sure settles down nicely when it’s go time.

I have four 6mm creeds and I thinks it the perfect whitetail cartridge.

Howa did make a 6 creed that meets your specifications.

There are no fast twist 243 Win, and probably never will be. Thanks to Harvard business school.
What does this mean? Several firearms manufacturers make a 7.5", 8", or 9" twist 243 Winchester which are faster than the SAAMI specification of 1-10" twist barrels.
