I want to build a 6 creedmoor for elk hunting out to 500 yards. I want an 18in barrel and it will be suppressed. I am looking for suggestions for barrels. I am not sold on carbon fiber or steel or prefit or blank. I am looking at all options right now. Any suggestions would be awesome. Plan on using 108 eldm. I have a Weatherby Mark V short action donor or might get a 307 action. I am a Weatherby guy. Thanks

I'll be watching this thread as I am looking to do the same with a Seekins Havak Pro that I have in 6.5 CM.

Patriot Valley Arms. Osprey prefit in 1/7 with the PVA standard freebore. They absolutely hammer. I've had two.

Also the prefits from LS Wild that are manufactured by Preferred Barrel Blanks have had great reports too, though I have no experience personally with them. They are definitely the affordable option.

Pick a decent tube, have a good gun plumber chamber it, and be on with it.

I'm partial to Benchmark #4 profile for hunting rifles and that's what my 18" 6 creed wears. I have a PVA 18" 0.750" taperless in the same chambering that weighs within an ounce of it as well.

I'm not aware if MkV or 307 actions hold tolerances for prefits or not but if you've got a smith that isn't a hassle to work with I'd just as soon have them fit the barrel rather than doing a prefit.

I'd do 7 or 7.5 Twist. Some smiths swear by 4 groove barrels but I wouldn't wait much longer for one than a different groove config.

Reloading? If so - go buy a tikka 243 1:8. It will be slightly more than the cost of an entire barrel on that weatherby and shoot the same 108s at the same speeds a creed can. But I’m partial….

This is my PVA 6CM 0.75 taperless that shoots sub MOA 10 shot groups.

Have a carbon fiber from x-caliber 20” that has been fantastic, down side is it is heavy. If I was to do it over I would go 18” pbb or pva and call it a day. But can argue with the groups my x-caliber prefit is giving me with factory ammo

Thanks for the replies. I am looking at PVA but cant decide on carbon or steel and what contour. I want it light for hunting but I like to shoot a lot as well

I would go with a PVA in 18" ive had great luck with the ones I own.

Based on those two requirements, go with steel. Less chance of it “walking” when it gets hot and you can actually go lighter than a carbon, especially if you flute it.

My 20” 75 taperless with spiral flutes is 39 oz. My 22” carbon6 sendero contour is 44oz.

I will be sticking to steel moving forward as I haven’t seen the benefits of the carbon being “lighter”. My recent 6.5CM barrel I got from PVA in 8 weeks.

Thanks. I know I should go steel but I really like the look of the carbon! What contours are you using?

I've had the same struggle! I'm waiting on a steel 18 inch 6 creed barrel with the Tikka hybrid lite contour from PBB I ordered a few months ago but keep wondering if I should have gone carbon fiber just because I like the appearance better especially in the XLR chassis I'm using. I decided it wasn't worth the extra cost and slightly higher chance of problems with it, but it's a tough decision.
