I was looking for feedback on making a 6mm creed out of a Long action remington 700 that is currently a 270 win. Im not really sure if its a good idea and a waste of money since its out of my realm. My 270 is currently a closet queen and I would like to get more use out of it than it does now. Any pros or cons would be great. Thanks.

The creedmoor feeds ok in my long action Remington, but it depends and others have had problems with the factory internal magazine. What exactly it depends on I couldn’t say, but spring pressure has to keep the front of the cartridge pushed up until the bullet hits the feed ramp and the feed rails have to hold the case long enough it’s started in the right direction and release properly, and the magazine dimensions have to be such that it allows the case to lay flat and still angle up. My feed rails are old, the magazine is aftermarket, even the magazine follower and spring are not from the original rifle. It’s a lot to expect an action long enough for full length long magnums to also feed shorties.
I talked at great length with a gunsmith that knows the struggle well and he said worst case the easy button if you have feeding issues and want an internal magazine is a Hawkins single stack that has to be fed from the floor plate, or a detachable magazine.
You should be able to put some creedmoor cartridges in the magazine and see if they start to feed ok with your setup. Obviously don’t try to chamber them, but watching them go forward far enough to pop up should be doable for a test.
My final words of wisdom is to try the test and if they don’t feed right off the bat, stop and either sell the rifle and buy a short action or have it rebarreled in a long cartridge like 6mm-06 or 25-06, which feed like greased bananas. If you’ve ever thought about reloading, light 270 bullets at creedmoor velocity are easily doable. A good used 243 could be used by her as is.
I was overly confident that shooting various short cartridges from my long action would be easier than it is and it’s easy to spend more trying to fix feeding issues than a complete used short action Remington 700.
That probably muddies the water more than it helps. *chuckle*
