6mm CM optic

Objective size is my main concern as of late. 50mm. I'd settle for a 44 but I feel 56 is waay too big

I also prefer to have a low end power. 3x is good 1.5x is best. I don't care much for a high top end magnification

Perfect hunting optic. Killed rocks out to 970 yards with my NF NXS and 16" Preferred barrel SaturdayView attachment 885818
If that juniper on the immediate right was at 970 yards and a buck was tucked up tight under it and/or bedded under it, would you make the same claim? Honest question as I'm toying with the idea of grabbing the NXS 2.5-10 for a rifle but that type of scenario (just not quite as far) is a major concern.

I can't answer that to be honest as I haven't had that situation. But, I'll try to get put myself in that position and see what I think.

Is your concern lack of magnification?

I think I'm going to run my SWFA 10X GII for the summer and see how it works out. Should be fine for the open country around here. Might be a little tight in the Ponderosa's.

I keep a fixed 12x on for most of the year for plinking. A loaner rifle has a fixed 6x. If I were to take it mountain hunting I’d swap on a fixed 6x or 8x, but 10x is usable if you’re good at quickly finding the target with the available field of view.

In the history of hunting, nobody with a fixed 10x or 12x has ever starved to death. 🙂

@Truck24hr and @SDHNTR...

I have a 308 Win that is collecting dust and I am toying with the idea of taking it to Kodiak this fall for blacktail. It's smaller stature (20" barrel and 7# all in) is appealing when you consider busting the brush on the coast. Its current scope is 3-15x42 and 16.5 ounces which is near ideal for the intended uses minus the reliability concerns. So this is the perfect excuse to upgrade the scope.

My short list is the (primary choice) NXS 2.5-10 and the (secondary choice) Credo 2.5-15x42. The RS1.2 is 10 ounces heavier and the NX8 2.5-20 is 12.1 ounces heavier.

The ammo in my 308 hits 1800 FPS @ 600 yards, excluding various environmentals, so that is the number for being able to clearly see game for the shot opportunity; actually taking a shot at that distance is a different conversation. My biggest concern is seeing animals tucked up tight to the brush and/or bedded within it. I am not concerned about target shooting past 600 as targets tend to be in the open.

Consider this setup a general purpose rifle that could be used for any game in any terrain within its wheelhouse.

That's where I'm at. Worst case is I buy one, use it, move it to a different rifle, and buy the other one.

The NXS is the ticket then if you want to save weight. No issues at all shooting out to 600. I own or have owned all of the scopes you mentioned, it’s the best choice for your use case.

Read some of Wayne van Zwoll stuff about optics, Gun digest book of sporting optics by Van Zwoll.

I’d vote the NXS 2.5-10. Doesn’t seem to make sense to have the extra weight of the Maven since your max range should be about 600 yards with the 6CM. I’ve shot to 1000 with the NXS but in a hunting situation I’d think the magnification would be fine out to 800 yards.

All of you guys using the NXS, anyone have issues with the Windage turret moving on you which carrying or strapped to the pack?

How is it going to SFP as a dedicated FFP guy at this point?

No, but I would simply wrap a strip of tape around it if I were worried about that. And I have when the gun was in a scabbard.

SFP vs FFP is moot at 10x imo. I don’t mind the SFP at all. Actually, I think I prefer it due to the low power visibility of the reticle.

I’ve not had any issues with the windage dial. I actually prefer the SFP due to having a more useable reticle at low mag. I generally like to dial for shots but if holds are more your thing it’s pretty easy to throw it on 10x. The scope comes with a throw lever which is nice.

I've been packing mine a lot lately, and have not had a turret move yet. But I do check them every time I shoot.

No idea on the 2nd question

I have been looking at scopes for my 25CM that is in the works. I have Credos on my 2 rifles now and the NXS Compact on a ML that I cant use scopes on anymore. I think you guys have convinced me to just put the NXS on the new rifle and call it good.
