How short have you built or would you build a steel 6CM barrel before you get concerned about loss of long range accuracy? Let’s assume a medium or heavy sporter contour. Not worried about trimming weight but rather keeping a reasonable overall suppressed length. 9” can. Maybe a better question is to ask if 20”-22” would or could adversely affect performance? Not looking to get crazy short but would like to hear your input & experience. CF barrel builders please chime in also. Thanks.

At least in theory a shorter barrel will be more accurate than a long barrel just do to the fact it is stiffer (everything else being equal). Not sure if that really helps or answers what your looking for though.

When you say long range are you meaning from a pure accuracy perspective or terminal performance on game?

20” is easy. “Precision” has nothing to barrel length. Have shot 243/6cm/etc below 16”- they shoot just fine.

Conservative and comfortable to my average skill on game & maybe out to 400 yards, and steel & electronic targets just for fun out to 1k when the opportunity for that distance arises.

Thanks, Form! I’m confident knowing that we believe you speak from experience. 👍 I’d be ok with 20-22” verses a typical 24 or 26.

18”-20” 6cm’s are silly good to distances way longer than almost anyone should be shooting animals. Ryan Avery’s uncle used my 20” 6XC (which is same/same as 6cm) to kill an elk at 970 yards clean as could be.

If you were cutting down the barrel on a factory T3x 6mm creedmore barrel would you go 16” or 18”? Would you get the OG6-S or the OG6.5 for a dedicated Supressor on the cut down 6cm? Thanks in advance!

You didnt ask me but I'd probably do 20". I have a couple 18" 6 creed barrels but thats only because they were getting a scythe or u7 previously. With a OG6.5 or shorter, 20" shouldn't be particularly cumbersome.

Good advice, and all the more important to look into a new lightweight 7” can soon ! TBAC Ultra 7 seems like a good choice if I can find one.
I have nothing bad to say about the ultra 7. A good friend of mine has one and for what it is it's great. That said we have so many more options today than 1-2 years ago. You can get a good suppressor without adding 6-7" to your barrel now. I know your question was pertaining to barrel length but when you have time you might take a look at the suppressor subform. Unknown has a 6.5 and a 30 cal that only adds 4" to your barrel and a 6mm can that adds 3". Airlock has a 6.5 that adds about 4". Others may have some similar options as well I'm just not familiar with them. Not trying to tell you what to buy but it might be something for you to take a look at when you have some down time.
