Hello everyone, I’m going be baiting bears this fall and the biggest gun I own is a 6mm creedmoor. I’m going to set up shots for 100-200 yards at the far end, what bullet would you go with? It’s got a 26in barrel so velocity will still be pretty high at those ranges so I was thinking something like an accubond or a hornady cx in the superformance.

What's the terrain like? How far are you comfortable with a bear going after the shot?

Neither of those would be my preference, but I'm sure they would do exactly what they are designed for at those ranges.

Personally. I'd use a tipped match bullet of some sort.

What would you shoot are you thinking like something more along the lines of an eldx that expands? My rifle loves the 100 grain sierra tipped game king, or would you opt for a bigger cartridge all around?

I think that TGK 100 would be better than the other two you mentioned. If it shoots them that good, I'd have no worries with them.

I'm in the same camp as @Valumpessa when it comes to smaller caliber cartridges, and shoot tipped match bullets almost exclusively.

6mm Creedmoor 90gr AccuBond Trophy Grade Ammunition. This would be my choice if your rifle shoots it accurately. Plenty of it for sale on Ammoseek for $40-$50.

Yes something that expands. Eldm , tmk, berger. Bears are not hard to kill. You have plenty gun with a 6mm. Aim middle of middle.
do you prefer any of those bullets listed over another? I was originally thinking 105 vldh and 108 eldm but then analysis paralysis sits in and I tend to overthink things.

I would shoot the107, 116 TMK or 103 eldx,108,109 eldm and aim middle of middle. Bears r pretty soft and easy to kill if you don't shoot too far forward.

that seems to be the consensus with those types of bullets. I have killed one bear when I was 13 and I shot it at 260 yds with a 270 130 gr accubond broadside in both shoulders and it was still alive the next morning but couldn’t move so from that experience I do know not to shoot shoulders.

For factory ammo, the 108 ELDM is my go to. But, it shoots exceptionally well in my rifle.

It's not like it's gonna grenade on bear fur or hide, it's gonna penetrate, then dump the bear. If the shot is placed well

The only bear I’ve ever killed was through both shoulders with a 270 130 accubond at 260 yards, it broke both shoulders but was still alive the next morning. Definitely going to avoid that far forward from here on out.

Do you handload or are you going to buy factory ammo?

Im the king of over thinking
For now I’d like to stick with factory just for the simplicity of it and a lot of factory ammo shoots really well. Yeah I tend to overdo it in the thinking department pretty hard

That makes sense, I think I’ll have to buy a box and see how my rifle shoots it.

If it was 260 yards away and couldn’t move why was it still alive the next morning?
