If you want a 20” barrel may be easier to just buy the 20” HB that’s thread 5/8. A bit heavier but a lot easier and maybe the thicker barrel shoots more consistently

So you fill the lug channel with epoxy, drop in the barreled action, and install the front action screw? Seems like that would push a bunch of epoxy up into the threading. I’ve bedded before but it was a Bergara.

My process:
• Remove barreled action
• Remove bolt, trigger assembly, and bolt stop from action.
• Tape off EVERYTHING on the stock that could get epoxy ooze on it.
• Spray action and screws with 3 coats of One-Shot, drying in between for a minute
• Place epoxy as illustrated
• I put none around either hole for the action screws, & none in the voids where the green asterisks are.
• Gently slid front action screw into hole from bottom while lowering action from the top
Favoring action as far forward as possible, while dropping onto waiting screw just starting threads
• Before tightening at all, inserted rear action screw and start threads
• Alternated tightened screws until quite snug.
Then backed off until just barely tensioned, while pressing firmly rearward on the action at all times
• Re-torqued firmly and released a couple times as in previous step to help “move epoxy”
Leaving screws lightly firmed but not much torque
• Leave for about 12 hours
• Remove screws, firm ( not crazy ) hand whack on bottom of barrel in front of stock
• Gentle back and forth wiggling to get it apart, it was / is a nice firm snug fit.
• Remove tape and excess epoxy (I waited another 12 is hours to clean stock of epoxy to allow it to harden further without disturbance

Not telling anyone what to do.
Not any kind of expert, this was my first attempt.
I did two stocks at the same time. Both came out the same.
Looks ok to me, but happy to have constructive suggestions on what looks out of whack, and needs to be re-addressed, or a better way to simpler / superior results.

Currently have one. But my goal is to make a sub 7.5 pound rifle out the door. I’m chasing ounces. Replacing a kimber mtn ascent. In my mind, if I’m going to have a super light rifle, I want one that has the least recoil to make it a little more tolerable to shoot. It may not make sense to others, but to me it does

I landed on the same choice for my 6arc build. Was debating between the 20" and 22" with plans to cut to 18". Figured the thinner barrel profile would balance better with a can and light stock as well.

I'll weigh my 20" hb. My guess is it's around that 7.5 lb or lighter

7lb 7oz with 20 moa rail and Mt tech rings, and a heavy ish scope. Shouldn't be a problem to keep it under 7 with a lighter scope and mounts instead of rail/rings. This is 20"Hb with stockys vg, jefferson bottom metal

The sporter barrel is going to be approximately 10 oz lighter than the HB (if I did my math right). 4.3 vs 3.85 pounds (7oz) for the barreled actions and then about 3 more ounces by the time I cut it down to 20”. Then in a Stockys that should put it pretty close to 7 pounds with a scope and rings. I’ll probably add a small arca adapter and a few other creature comforts which will add 2-3 ounces back onto it.

But if I’m missing something, let me know. I truly want to make a sweet little easy to pack gun.

My scope is 25.5 oz, rings and base are probably 5-6 together. If you had a lighter scope like a trijicon 3-9 and direct mounted rings , it would probably drop another half pound or better. Not sure what suppressor you run but with a small arca plate and a can you should be at or under 7.5 lbs without issue. Especially if the barrel is that much lighter.

Thank you so much. I was planning on chopping 2” off so it should put it almost identical to carbon version. Really appreciate it. Just saved me $400.

I have a 223, Started as a standard 22” barrel, cut and threaded to 16.5”, Stocky’s CF Sporter stock, Jefferson bottom metal, DNZ game reaper mount, and an 18oz scope, with Raptor 8 suppressor with threaded flush mount . I believe I was at 6lb, 11oz before I disassembled to do the bedding work.
Fighting dementia….
I’ll try to put it back together to give you a comparison vs 6ARC setup with 22” standard barrel uncut, CF VG stocky stock, steel split bases and steel rings. Betting that setup will be a few oz’s over 7lbs.

I should have them both back together in a couple days and give you exact numbers.

Here, since I'm in the middle of building one of these for my boys I'll throw my info out there for folks:

1. 4lb, 6 oz: 20" HB 6arc barreled action with with aluminum Warne weaver bases
2. 9oz: DD s-ti with carbon felt diy wrap
3. 2-3oz: Warne hyperlite low 1" rings (shows up today)
4. 15-16oz: Trijicon Huron 3-9x40 (shows up today)
5. 17-18oz: Stockys hunter/sporter style stock (shows up by Tuesday)
6. 1-2oz: Bedding, texture paint etc
7. Total: ~7lbs 6-8oz

Like y'all are saying, there is room to shave weight by going with the 22" barrel, chopping the barrel and running a lighter scope.

Add that all up: 6-8oz from 22" profile barrel cut down and 4-7 oz from the scope would put a build in the 6 3/4lb range including a 9 oz suppressor.

I would add, as a VG owner, the VG is a little more uncomfortable to shoot in an unsupported position than a traditional stock due to rear/trigger hand placement. Can be done easily but feels unnatural even with practice. Something to consider depending upon your hunting style.

Do they put their factory seconds on stockys website? Or do you need to call into them? Can’t seem to see any for their mini action, do see super lite and normal Howa action

Aka personal preference

We hunt a fair bit of heavy timber and spend a decent amount of time still hunting, which means most shots are close, happen fairly fast and to your point are unsupported.

Not to say that a VG stock doesn't work for others in those scenarios, it does, but for those encounters we prefer the sporter style stock. I definitely prefer the VG for shots that benefit from more neutral hand positions.

Scope, & rings added and swapped to steel bases (for better ring positions): 6 lbs 3 ish oz.

Looks like it'll finish a bit closer to 7 lbs 4-5 oz.

I have been using vertical grip exclusively and long enough that a hunter stock now feels unnatural. I think it’s a personal thing influenced by many factors.
