We went on a terror with the 156 berger for a few years but I can only remember 1 over 500.

Cow Elk @ 600 ish yards - 2995 FPS MV 156 berger - Perfect lung shot, took one step and died. Massive exit hole.

We have had pretty good luck with the 6.5 PRC this year.
Bull elk @600 2900 MV 147 ELDM High shoulder shot and it went about 10 yards.
Bull elk @750 2900 MV 147 ELDM Hit a little further back than anticipated but still only carried about 50 yds.

A couple years ago I used a 6MM BRA for a late season cow hunt. For that I was using a 108 ELDM at 2850 and shot her at 750. That one I would probably not recommend for other hunters to try based off the numbers but that rifle has killed more cows in the last few years than any of my bigger rifles.

Caliber : 243 Win
Distance : 650 yrds
Bullet : 75 gr VMax
Impact Velocity : ~1825 fps
Animal : Mule Deer

3 shots. First hit liver. Second high shoulder and dropped. Still alive when I got to him so third was close and lungs.

Caliber : 6.5 Creed
Distance : 505
Bullet : 140 gr Berger VLD Target
Impact Velocity : ~ 1995 fps
Animal : Whitetail Deer

1 shot. Dropped. Can’t remember for sure but thinking shoulder/ CNS hit.

Caliber : 6.5 Creed
Distance : 804
Bullet : 140 gr Berger VLD Target, 143 ELD X
Impact Velocity : ~ 1640 (Berger) unsure on ELD
Animal : Whitetail deer

2 deer down. A buddy and I doubled on does. I’m shooting the bergers. My deer went maybe 25 yards and piled up. His went maybe 35 yards and piled up. We was main shooter and I shot on his report.

Caliber : 6.5 Creed
Distance : 864
Bullet : 140 gr Berger VLD Target
Impact Velocity : ~ 1575 fps
Animal : Whitetail Deer

12 yr old son. Impact was right to front leg lung shot. Deer went 50 yards and piled up.

All these deer were cut up gutless method so can’t comment for sure on terminal performance of bullet. Don’t recall there being an exit hole on any of them though. I would not shot a the 243 at that distance with that particular round again though. I have shot other deer and antelope with it out to 250 yards with great results though.

Several elk from 515-705 with 6.5 creedmoor & 6.5 SAUM. 140 ELDm, 147 Eldm, 156 Berger, 127 Barnes.

All shot behind the crease, they take the hits like they werent ever bothered, however - within 20-100 yards they lie dead with good wound channels. All one shot kills (1 required 2 with the barnes.)

all i can say is there is a lot of very impressive shooting (and hunting) here!! color me jealous! the longest hunting opportunity i've had to date is just 400 yds. i am surprised to hear of the match (vs hunting) bullet success.

I’ve been killing with .260 Remington since the late 90s. Bullet I’ve used for the past 7 seasons is 129 grain SST.

Last few seasons in order for recent examples, at or past 500 yards are…

.Whitetail at 660 yards
.Coastal Blacktail at 1,100 yards
.Coues Deer at 560 yards
.Whitetail at 520 yards
.Whitetail at 500 yards
.Elk at 515 yards
.Coues Deer at 480 yards
.Coues Deer at 530 yards

By far the most big game kills with my .260 are shots are in the 200-350 yard ranges.

6GT with a 110 Atip on a nice buck at 544. Dropped like it was struck by lightning. Went through the shoulder. Rolled down the hill dead

243/105 Amax @ 3k has taken somewhere around 50 or more deer beyond 500 yards and out to 1k. Pretty boring repeatability, half dollar exits most of the time and down in 20-40 yards or less.

Required another shot to put him down when I got to him 35 minutes later, fortunately the bullet tumbled up into his spine or he would have run off.
Good bullet expansion, mediocre damage to lungs, minimal wound channel, never again.

147 ELDM
Whitetail buck at 540 yards
Impact velocity 2350
Heart shot, ran approx 75 yards, good wound channel total pass through

I didn't want to derail another thread. So I started this one.

Who has shot/witnessed a big game animal past 500 yards with a 6mm or 6.5? Many members here love to tell you their opinion about it, but I am figuring out that damn few have done it. So if you have, please tell me the chambering, distance, bullet, impact velocity, and outcome.

From what I remember off hand from the last couple of years- I’m missing some, and there’s a bunch under 500y.

Elk, 860 yards, 6.5 CM 143gr ELD-X, 1,609fps impact, walked 20-30 yards and fell.

Elk, 970 yards, 6XC 115gr DTAC, one shot high lung, one shot through scapula, walked less than 20 yards, fell. This was finishing a previously wounded (300PRC) elk.

Elk, 560 yards, 6XC 115gr DTAC, center lungs, ran 20 yards and fell

Elk, 550 yards, 6XC 115gr DTAC, high lungs, dropped

Elk, 644 yards, 6XC 115gr DTAC, quartering away lungs, exit neck, ran 20 yards, facing away, second shot breaking spine in neck and collapsed.

Elk, 910 yards, 6.5 PRC 153gr A-TIP, first shot high lung, second through heart, ran 60’ish yards and fell.

Deer, 612 yards, 6.5 cm 130gr TMK, high shoulder and spine, dropped

Elk, 676 yards, 6.5 CM 130gr Terminal Ascent, fist shot through lungs and liver, turned and second shot through lungs, third shot (700’ish) in neck severing jugular. Fell and slide 20-30 yards.

Elk, 735 yards, 6.5 CM 143gr ELD-X, two shots to lungs, walked 20 yards and fell.

Deer, 606 yards, 6.5 CM 130gr Berger Hybrid OTM AR, 1,850fps impact, several shots all in lungs as it walked/trotted 70’ish years. One bullet expanded, the rest ice picked.

Elk, 801 yards, 6.5 cm Berger 130gr Hybrid OTM AR, 1,850’ish fps impact, several shots all in lungs- first standing, rest while walking 70’ish yards- one bullet expanded/fragmented

Elk, 666 yards, 6.5cm 130gr Berger Hybrid OTM AR, 2,100fps impact, bedded stood up at shot, three more in lungs, one broke scapula at “knuckle” and fell in tracks. All bullets performed correctly.
No ELD-M’s Form????
