6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

The difference in wound channels would not be enough to the point where I would switch to the 103 eldx. If your daughters .243 shoots the 95 ballistic tips (nosler I’m assuming?) well, Leave it alone. Rumor has it that nosler created the 95 ballistic tips with elk in mind anyway. Side note: I live at 2300’ of elevation and have no problem getting the hornady 105bthp to stabilize out of a 1:9.25 twist .243 win. I’m guessing the 103 eldx would stabilize just fine if you choose to use it.

H4831 has been the most accurate powder with heavier projectiles in my 9.25 twist .243’s. My most accurate load with the 103’s was pretty much right at 3000fps and the 95’s it’s around 2925. I really wanted to shoot the 103’s but they seem to be marginally stable. They group ok at 100 yards but I tried them again and the groups opened up to a little over 2 MOA at 430 yards. The 95 gr noslers grouped much tighter at the longer ranges so I’m going stick with them for now. I am kind of secretly hoping this barrel burns up soon so that Incan screw my 6 creed barrel on it.
Stability actually increases over distance , there was probably something else going on there

@MT-nuffgun , and others in the know: The Nosler 95 sounds kind of like the "gold-standard" sub-100 grain all-around .243 bullet. Any idea on how some newer bullets in that category, like 90 ELD-X compare to the Nosler?

Just generally wondering if the Nosler is worth looking for and paying for, when there are others that are much more available.

I've seen the 90 eld in gel some, looks solid enough. The 95 berger classic hunter performed well for me. If you don't need a high bc the little 85gr sierra bthp wrecks deer though I don't think I'd want to use it on elk. I've used 90gr accubonds as well with pretty good success.

The 95 BT is a sweetie though. Ballistic tips just shoot well, and terminal performance has been very nice.

Does anyone have experience with the Berger 108 ELite hunters on game?
I drew my 3 Antelope tags for Wyoming, my buddy also drew a tag and is using my rifle with the elite hunters. The other guy in our group intends to shoot the 105 hybrids. Hoping to update the thread in a couple months with 5 filled tags on the Bergers

Ok cool. Im gonna use them this fall so hopefully will get to test them out. I killed a few coyotes with them and they worked well on coyotes.

Roughly when will that update come?

Picking up my 18” 6CM barrel today and have a few more months before the rifle is complete. Going to pick up some factory ammo. 103 ELDX seems to be slightly cheaper than 108 ELDM. Should I still go with the 108s?

103 eld-x will kill just fine.

Both the 103 and 108 kill well. I wouldn't worry about price until you figure out what shoots well from your rifle. An additional option that kills well and has been an accurate round for me is the Federal GMM 105 Berger. It is cheaper than either the 103 or 108 right now @ $288 a case shipped plus the brass is decent.

I shoot 90 ELDX with accurate results. Haven’t used them on game yet, but I’m sure they perform well

I finally got my 6cm put together and zeroed this morning. Figured I better swing into a farm I have permission on to try it out. Plenty of wallop for groundhogs. 5 DRT's.

But did it have enough knockdown power? 🤣

Surprised it didn’t shred them! Granted this is a prairie dog, not a groundhog, but this is from a 77 TMK out of a 223 at 220+ yards.

Dang that's impressive. Yeah I was surprised all the more it tore them up. I usually shoot them with a 22-250/vmax and it can get nasty.
I’ve got a 6 PRC. I’ve thought it’d be really fun to load up some 6mm 80 ELD-VT! I’m sure that’d make an awful mess
