6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

I’ve had the 87 not penetrate a groundhog if shot length wise on more than one occasion. I’m just presenting facts that I’ve seen. The only way to see how it works in your case is to try it out. Let us know how it goes on bear, I’m genuinely curious.

I’d love to see the bullets you pulled out of them, for science! I am also genuinely curious for the bear and to see the bullets that got stuck inside a groundhog (at least what’s left).

It’s violently effective. I don’t really have experience yet though, besides for two deer yesterday. Mine at 414 with the full pass though and football size exit and a 90 yard shot by my buddy. He hit high shoulder, through the upper scapula, spinous process and caught in offside hide. Softball sized wound cavity there as well.

@B_Reynolds_AK impressive that the wound cavity at 90y was nearly the same as 414y. 450fps difference in impact velocity, def more upsetting tissue on the 90y shot, yet consistent results. Leads me to think it's do just fine on shoulders out at 400-500y as well.

Yeah I was impressed by both results. I was hoping I’d get two different samples from differing ranges and that’s exactly how it played out.

Just shoot them. They fragment heavily.

What Form said. The tips don’t all look exactly uniform, but I very much doubt that it makes any functional difference based on their construction. So no, I didn’t drill them.

That's pretty good velocity. Is that just a faster barrel? Is that kind of velocity common with the match burners? I was thinking I was either going to have to go with a 24 inch barrel or jump up to a 243 AI to get near 3k. But maybe it can be done at 20 inches with the match burners?

The 6cm is pretty phenomenal lil case. Lapua brass hides psi very well and likely doesn't show ejector marks and bolt lift till north of 70k psi. My 22" doesn't show pressure with H4350 and 109a till up around 3050, and with rl26 I was over 3150 and max fill, no pressure signs.

It’s a PVA 7 Twist barrel with their PVA Standard Freebore. Alpha OCD Brass, Fed 210’s and H4350. I’m a bit over book (42.4) but no heavy bolt lift and only very slight pressure signs, though even factory Hornady ammo shows those as well.

What contour is that? Sufficiently lightweight enough or if you could change, would you do a different contour?

It’s the new .750 Taperless w/ flutes and threaded 5/8. Weighs 39 oz.
It’s the contour that I advocated to them to do, so it’s exactly what I wanted. Wouldn’t change a thing. It looks great in the HNT 26.

Man I bet that buck was a stunner when he had both antlers! Looks like he had a bit of a tumble.
