6creedmoor to fill a gap or not needed?

Was thinking of adding a 6creedmoor barrel to one of the tikkas but have them in a few calibers already. 6br, 6.5cm, 6.5prc, and .308. Would there be much of, if any performance gains on animals (axis deer, pigs, and goats) by using a 6creedmoor?

Throw a 95tmk in the 6br, plenty of medicine for deer to 500y.

Agreed the 6br won’t be “as fast” but will be more than sufficient at hunting ranges.

Thanks. Haven’t tried loading for the 95tmk yet, I’ll look into those. Loaded some Berger 105s and some Norma 76 tipstrikes for the next hunt.

I think I'd prefer 6BR to 6CM for the majority of use mine gets but I do like to have the extra velocity in a short barrel that the CM allows. That and I have probably shot as much factory ammo as handloads in my 6CM.

It might not be needed but if it's something you want it definitely won't hurt to add an additional barrel.

It’s an 18” barrel with 7.5 twist rate. Shoots the 105bergers very well.

Gains as in knockdown performance, better bullet selection, or ability to spot the impacts better.
So far the 6br is my youngest son’s rifle and light recoil and great ability to stay on target after the shot. The 6.5 creedmoor was my rifle but now it’s my older son’s rifle and he’s been racking up animals with it. The prc is my rifle and has great knockdown power but is a little difficult at times to spot impacts depending on shooting position. The thought behind 6cm was to have more stopping power than the br and the ability to stay behind the glass and spot impacts a little easier than the 6.5cm.

All my 6br and variants(bra/dasher) are 7 and 7.5tw. At the lower br velocity you have no fears of over revving 90+ gr bullets. Pretty certain the 7.5tw is the modern normal standard for a custom 6mm barrel.

To the OP, a 6cm at 18" really has no issues running 2850mv with heavies. Very manageable recoil, easy spotting and plenty of terminal performance to 600+ yards. It'll be on par performance wise with a 26"+ 6br. Basically same performance and length but that's including supressor length.

I was more concerned about the lack of velocity with the heavier weight bullets
I was playing with the 6BR in the early 70's. Its was brought about mostly by Jim Stykle at Remington Arms when they were building 40X BR guns. 1 in 14 was the twist rate.

Instead of “knockdown power” I think it’s better/more accurate to view it as maximal terminal distance. That way it you can get actually useful information, and decide if you need the possible extra velocity that the 6cm will give you vs the 6br.
