6 PRC reloading

Roll sizer is an option. Spendy piece of kit tho for one issue, but it would solve it.

Could call PBB get a copy of their reamer print. Send the print off to JGS and have them duplicate it, but just change 0.200 line dimension to 0.535. Clean the heck out your chamber/throat and then hand ream your chamber. Other reamer companies are out there and prob faster, but JGS is prob the highest quality and ground to spec option.

The reamer is def cheaper than a roll sizer. I own a rollsizer, I could shrink your base down to 0.531, it'd only cost you an hour of my time(pending quantity of brass) plus round trip shipping.
I’m not privy to roll sizing but is it a one and done type deal? Then I can size with my regular Redding die or will the brass grow with each firing

It'll usually need done every firing, sometimes less. Another option is lowering the powder charge to lower psi, less expansion at the web area.

What do your cartridge bases measure pre and post sizing? Micrometer typically gives better resolution VS a caliper.

.533 fired and .532 sized with a Redding bushing die. The cortina mandrel might gain .0005 of sizing tops

Yeah you need be 0.531 or less, new brass is around 0.529 I believe.

I have had the best luck using the bullet central micron prc die, they size the smallest(also quite pricey) . They'll take 534-5345 brass fired in a 535 base chamber, down to 531-532, no clickers in my 6 25 or 65 prc chambers. The RCBS matchmaster dies are the next tightest die I've used.

Have you tired putting a well lubed fired case through the cortina small base mandrel body prior to running it through your redding die?

I have not. I usually size, then mandrel die. Will give that a try. At this point the barrel is wearing down and I haven’t even settled on any load dev. It’s been all trying to figure out the clicker issue. Preferred says based on my case measurements that the chamber is where it should be. I dunno. They are willing to take another look but not sure what else they will do. I’m tempted to pull the barrel and polish it out a couple thousandths but am nervous about that as well. Really liking this round but this clicker deal is maddening. There were a bunch of folks that have these and not a lot of folks seem to be having the same issue. I think I’d have to run at 3000 or less to avoid clickers. Been using both adg and lapua.

Don't be nervous about polishing it out. I've had a few done. It really needs be thrown in a lathe, running at speed, and use some fine grit emery on a small dowell, it'll help. I'd try to find a pin gauge or two to see how its coming along before going too far.

rounding out my experience and load.

I want to caveat by saying that I had some additional freebore added and ended up with ALOT more then I thought.

My base to ogive on 116 TMK’s using a comparator is 2.505 to touch lands…. I’m jumping the TMK’s just under .180

I loaded up 560 up to 59 grains and had no pressure that I could see. No heavy lift, no ejector marks , no funky primers.

20” barrel

Speeds were as follows w/n560 5 shot groups just chasing a velocity and if I need to scrap this barrel….
57=3150(best group)
58=3185(not great group)
59=3244( great group but had a flyer so it’s either not enough rounds to be good data or I was shooting mirage ) also not sure I need to chase the speed overall.

All these groups were shot pretty fast, I’m using racing the rso to ceasefire

I’ll be loading up 40 of the 57 grains and 20 of the 59 to see what we get for groups.

(I drew an Idaho elk super tag and NV mule deer rifle tag w 2 points 😬😂😎) so this and my 18”6.5prc that shoots 135 out at 3040 will be coming Along. A

My experience with this round has been nothing short of disappointing. I can’t get near the performance out of this round that others are seeing. I have a PBB 18 in 1-7.5 and anything over 3000 I get clickers. I need to be around 56.5 gr of n565. Also the harder I push it, the accuracy falls off. At this point I’m over it and done. I know a lot if out there folks barrels from them and arnt seeming to have issues but this has been a nightmare for. Love the idea of this and love what other folks report but that hasn’t been my experience

Was your 6.5prc barrel a factory you cut down or an aftermarket?

Their reamer is questionable. I have a PBB barrel, had QC issues , sent to another smith to clean up and ended up with a lot of throat.

Send it to a smith to clean up. I’ll be swapping out to a PXT as soon as they drop banks in 6mm

At this point I’m calling it a loss. I’ve burned through over half the barrel life and I’m pretty reluctant to stick any more $ into it. Very poor experience but there are a lot of folks that have these barrels that don’t seem to have problems, not sure what else I can do at this point

That’s fair, the PXT proofs seem promising .

Maybe a 6UM-30 could give you what you need from a quality smith like UM. Head stamped brass is sick too

Did you reach out to Preferred? I thought their PRC reamers were supposed to avoid clickers?

I have a barrel on order through them now so hoping I won’t have issues.

I might have missed how your accuracy results ended up but I'm getting 3000 with a 116 from an 18.5" 7.5 twist and 56gr n565. Start seeing some pressure signs at 57. I don't think your velocities are to far off of what I've found. If your shooting a much lighter bullet my bad for not checking back on your posts

Yes it went back once and they followed it up with a different t reamer but didn’t help. They offered to take it back again and take a look but ultimately they said something like, this can be common for prc wildcats. For whatever reason it seems it could be on my end as there were a fair amount purchased through the group buy and I’ve only heard of a few with the issues, most others seem to be ok. And maybe I’m asking too much but from what others are seeing, I feel like I should be able to get 3050-3100 with 108,109,112. The weird part is i get no other pressure signs, just a clickers. I think it’s a reamer spec, but I dunno can’t say for sure. I’ve used 5 different dies and tried 3 different brass types. This has gotten expensive for no solution.

I’ve been using the 109 eldm and 112s. Maybe I just have a super slow barrel but I don’t really see or feel any of the traditional pressure signs with primers or stuff bolt lift, just clicks.

Dang man, sorry to hear of the troubles! You've definitely been through the ringer with this one.
