6 PRC reloading

26" though?

Dont shoot ELDs with it? DTACs might hold up to the revs fine?
I’ve considered trying the DTAC. I just don’t want to have to run a mono in it. I know the rpm’s will be high but a 7.5 twist with a 3,400 fps velocity is only at 1.59 SG. The 7 twist puts it at 1.82

What is your concern with having a 1.59 gyro in the 7.5 twist? Both Hornady and Berger specify you’re getting fully optimized BC at 1.5 and going with a faster twist is just getting you a lower muzzle velocity at the same pressure, increasing dispersion, and increasing your chances of issues with bullet jacket separation.

I already have a 7 twist barrel that I’m wanting to get rechambered. Also, 1.5 is the minimum for optimized bc. 1.49 is still considered “marginal”. More is gooder, right?

I wouldn't choose a bullet just because it has higher than 1.59 SG if the bullet with the 1.59 SG had other more desirable attributes for your goals.

If a DTAC shot well out of a 26" 7 Twist 6 PRC, id be hard pressed to want to try ELDm's. Maybe 103 ELDx would be a safer choice than eldm for that application?

Edit: from Tubb below, i think you'll be fine with a 7 twist at mach jesus.
David reports: “This bullet stabilized out of true 1:8″ twist or faster barrel at velocities approaching 3000 fps at sea level”.

I think I’m going to reach out to Hornady and probably David Tubb and see what the max rpm’s are for some of these bullets. I just thought it was interesting that a 115 Berger Target at 3,400 fps was under a 1.5 with an 8 twist but a 7 twist would put it at nearly 330k

Definitely post what you find out

Hornady says that 280-300k is max RPM for their bullets. I’m waiting for a call from David Tubb to see what he says about the DTAC. In the meantime, I reached out to @Ryan Avery and he’s says I’m not going to have a problem with the weak 6 PRC in a 7 twist. If I didn’t know any better, I’d assume he would even call it a “pissant little cartridge”

Not a piss ant.. Just lesser…… :)

Jumping in on this thread. Are a lot of people using a 6.5 seating die with this cartridge? I have an extra set of hornady match grade bushing dies that I would love to utilize if possible.

And no issues with hornady bushings does for necking down brass?

The bushings aren’t tapered so you’ll want to run an intermediary step
First pass with a .280
Final pass with a .270ish depending on brass

I’m close so ordering the 6um, have the 6.5saum improved +p that’s not tough to do brass on but.. had an old Win model70 WSM sitting around I wanted to use. So I did the 6PRC. Got the Rokstok over the summer for it. Turned out great after figuring out a DBM for it. 20” carbon Benchmark, 115dtac, 56gr of n565 hits 3198fps with LRM primers and 3164 with LR primers. I haven’t even tried other powders since both those are mid 20s ES for 15 shots and very small groups. Lapua brass, SAC die w .271 bushing, single pass, SAC universal seating die w the #2 stem I believe. I just mocked up a Dtac so the boattail lined up at the bottom of the neck, fit in the mag and told em to let me start around .030 jump. And the old Mod70 is back in the game
