6 PRC reloading

Dayum good shooting! Just ordered some H1000 going to try to work up a load for that with Hornadys 110 A tip, any thought on those?

Be a sweet bullet but they reportedly have pretty erratic terminal performance. Also, high RPMs, hot barrels, and rough barrels can be a problem for hornady jackets staying together.

My barrel does not like N565 with the 115 DTAC. Fiddled with it long enough.

Loaded a handful of rounds with Retumbo and the 115 Dtac, .050 off the lands. 58.0 Grains showed serious promise, have more loaded to shoot a 10 shot group to confirm. Initial loading was 3,075 fps, so ~100fps slower than the N565 load I was dinking with.
Fine with me and my effective range, still looks to carry 1800fps beyond 900 yards at 150' ASL.

Anyone have Retumbo in stock? Would like another few pounds.

Personal loads with the 108 ELDM's and CCI 200's

54gr. 4831 SC
57gr. H1000
61gr. N570

Adjust accordingly for your powder burn rates and bullet weights.
Yeah. I want to get a firing on all my brass, and get 100 rounds or so down the barrel to get it sped up, then I can make a true judgement between powders. I have N565 and Grand, and I think some 4831SC. I know 4831 won’t give as much velocity, but it’s typically accurate. I also have some StaBall HD if that’s even worth playing with
@huntnful @Schmo do either of you have a MV for H4831SC? Curious how that performs vs H1000.

I don’t, but I’ll probably try some when I get back to load dev. I bought property in March, and have been in a building project since, that has taken all my extra time, and time that I didn’t really have! Fortunately, that project is coming to a close here soon, and I’ll be getting the loading bench setup quickly, as I’m itching to load and shoot again.

56gr H1000 gets me 3190 with a low es and sd. No pressure, 1/2 MOA. I hit pressure at 3390 59 gr. Groups were over 1.5 MOA with anything over 3220.

Is 61 gr of h4831 a typo?
Nope... it fits but I do not reccomend it... Blew the primer out too. Speed was a typo, it was 3385.

6 PRC will also take 62 gr of H1000, also don't reccomend... 3485, also lost a primer.

If I use a drop tube i can get 62 gr of N570... No pressure 3300 fps, no accuracy.

Final load for this one:
  • 2.300” CBTO, .038 OTL, 56.25gr H1000, 210M Primer, .2415” mandrel,
  • 10 shot Avg 3172 FPS, Ext. Spread 39, SD 16.8, 1.125" @ 200 yards.

61gr h4831correlates with ~3365fps in GRT, it says that the pressure is 85ksi... surprised you didn't blow primers sooner depending on your ladder.
I wasn't seeing the speed I expected so I just filled her up... Lesson learned on my part!

I did work up the H1000, that one surprised me. Light pressure at 61.5, blown primer at 62.

Again, this rifle does not like 109's over 3220. Which is fine for its purpose.

Based on the speeds you are saying for that bullet/barrel unless GRT is wildly off when you are saying you are seeing pressure its 80+ksi for what its worth. It could be off too, I had to create a 6prc profile in it (I was nerding out looking at 6-284 and 6prc) but it correlated well with the H4831 you posted above. For the H1000 it's taking a couple extra grains to get the velocity you are noting which also comes with pressure. Again something could be off but it sounds like those high velocities were also really hot.

ADG brass? (edit you already said that, nevermind)
