6.5mm 153gr Hornady A-Tip

Just picked up 200 hundred of these, anyone use them? Any good?

Scheels has them currently, there are 2 more boxes at the Overland Park store.
I've been tempted to try them - plenty of them on the shelves here.

Are you planning to use them in your creedmoor? What powder?

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread - I enjoyed your Berger 156/Creedmoor thread.

Limited experience. Mixed results. Need to kill many more critters to form an opinion. One antelope at 580 was less than impressive with a 6.5 hole in and a 6.5 hole out. They fly great and group well, it’s just the efficient killing that needs to be proven.

Yup they‘ll be used in the cm, not sure how soon I’ll start to play with them but I’m getting the itch. Thinking of using RL26 also thinking about RL26 for the Berger’s. Just won’t be playing with primer changes as I have to save my BR2’s. I’m getting close to needing to find a primer source, hopefully supply starts to come back by summer.

Wonder if mag primers make a diff in the cm, hmm.

I’m not sure I’ll use them for hunting, hard to move away from Berger’s but more looking to see how well it does for accuracy and just a fun time to test stuff.

BC, accuracy and precision are all excellent.

Consistent terminal performance, to be determined. 😬

I was half tempted to buy some 135s a while back for my match rifle. Seeing the current price on bergers I might just give them a go.

I hear you on the primers. I feel comfortable for the year, but if we hit august and I still haven’t found any....

I was talking to a buddy and he’s done shooting and buying for now, says he won’t contribute to the madness. I just enjoy it way too much but I won’t pay insane prices for anything, I’m down to 1300 primers so I’ll be ok for this year but if I shoot like normal I’ll be getting worried by summer.

I won’t pay insane prices either. I’ll just not shoot if that’s the case. Or shoot my bow more. Trying to not be part of the problem.

It does suck though, wife and I plan on trying for kids this year so it may be my last year for a while to get out and shoot matches on a regular basis, along with shoot varmints and maybe a few deer if I can draw anything.

More gun owners is a good thing. But this is only hurting competitive shooting, and regular recreational shooters.

I don’t see how this can continue through summer. Things are trrickling in. Fear is pushing people to want to be maybe more prepared than they need to be. If I’m being honest with myself.... I’ll run out of supplies some time in 2022 with what I have right now if I continue at the rate I have been.

Kids were the best thing to happen to me, even on the worst days of stress they create, lol.

I may go back to ladder testing vs 3 and 5rd groups for load development.

These Hornady A-Tip seem to get VERY extreme responses with little to no middle ground. I've heard some say they pencil through but then I know other reputable sources that say they had excessive expansion with the A-Tip.

For the most part though, everyone that has shot them has had pretty good results in the accuracy department. I have quite a few of them in different calibers and weights and measuring these things I can say I have never measured bullets that were as consistent from one to the next as these A-Tip are. They have little to no variance in them it's crazy how nearly perfectly consistent they are from bullet to bullet.
