I've been shooting a custom 270 WSM for a few years. Stiller action, Jewell trigger, Satern 26" #4 fluted barrel, Manners carbon fiber stock, regular old Talley steel rings/bases, and a NF 2.5-10x32. Weighs just a hair over 8 lbs. I've been shooting Berger 140 VLD's because they shoot half MOA in the rifle. Mostly shot marmots with it, and one elk. She died just fine. I had planned to rebarrel to 7 WSM when this one is done, but I really don't see enough advantage between the two to worry with. I will have a 9 twist barrel to shoot the Matrix 165's though.
My long range varmint gun is a 14 lb 7 mag shooting 180 Berger VLD's. I think 180's out of my 8 lb rifle will begin to recoil heavy, and I went with the 270 to get away from heavy recoiling rifles.
