6.5 PRC

Good morning. Been looking for opinions on the 6.5 PRC. I've shot either a 25-06 or 30-06 all of my life and looking or a different option. Thank you in advance.

The 6.5 PRC was designed for use on medium to large game weighing up to 1500 pounds according to Hornady. Less recoil then your ol ought six. So I guess it depends on what you plan to hunt and if it was me, I would factor in what you already have.

I load my own so decided to get a 6.5 creedmoor and hot rod them up to the same speeds you'd get from 6.5 prc off the shelf loads.

I absolutely love this cartridge, it hammers animals, im shooting 140 berger at 3040fps out of a 22" bbl.

You can’t hot rod the CM enough to get a 147 to 2950 which is what the factory PRC runs. I have a fast CM (I know cause I’ve had 5) and it will get 2850 with a 140.

Unless you run a 30” barrel

Yeah I was being a little optimistic I think.

If I can get to within 100fps pushing 140's I will be happy. I am hoping RL 17 will get me there.

The fasted powder is Reloader 26 but impossible to find. 17 is good. 42 grains gets me 2825 in the fast one (24”) and 2725-2750 in two other 22” barrels. R26 would add 25-50fps but you have cram the powder in.......

Thanks for the tip on the 26! I think my lgs has a bunch of it but I grabbed the 17 instead not knowing any better. Cutting out of work early!
