6.5 PRC what bullets we using?

My 6.5 PRC shot the 147 ELDM much better than the 156 Berger factory ammo, and the ELDM is much cheaper, so it's what I've gone with. Terminal performance has been great from 40 - 450 yards for me so far with my limited sample size. I'll be carrying it on all my hunts this year.

I wanted to shoot the 143 ELDX, but I had a hard bolt open and close, for some reason the 147 ELDM is not causing that issue. Will be first year hunting with rifle.

I have used 3 different bullets in multiple 6.5 PRC rifles. The 127 LRX, the 147 ELDM, and the 156 EOL all have shot well and killed easily from antelope to elk. If you're a shoulder shooter and hunt mostly sub 500 yards, I'd use the 127 LRX. If you are a lung shooter or like the head/neck shot, the 147 ELDM performs greatly and can be found cheaper than the other 2 bullets. If you like to be able to shoot shoulders, lungs, or head shots I think the 156 Berger is where it's at.

I shot a box of 130gr TMK. Good to go and killed a bunch of deer but I wanted to shoot heavies in this caliber. I feel like that's the only point of having it at all is to move 147's and 156's properly.

I shot around 250 147 ELD. Killed a bunch of deer and a moose.

I just switched to 156 EOL to go thru the rest of 2 boxes I picked up while planning for a moose hunt. Rezero'd and everything and then just found 50 more 147 ELD loaded so I'm going slip turrets back and use those for a bit and then pull the barrel to work on something else.

If I come back to it, I'll come out the gate with the 156 EOL but only because they're here.

I like H1000 better than N565. It seems more accurate and goes thru a powder drop better.

I put it all here when I was messing with it:

147 eldm has killed 3 caribou and probably a dozen deer. All dropped instantly. My only concern with them is the wound channel can be devastating. Not complaining about the quick kills, but meat bruising can be an issue even when hit behind the shoulder. I’ve been thinking about switching bullets, but damn they shoot so accurate out of my gun

All my Partition friends have switched to Accubonds and like the performance just as much. I don’t shoot far enough away for the Accubonds to make much of a difference so I’m still using Partitions across the board. 140 gr in the PRC.

Have you used the 140-grain Partitions in a 6.5 CM? Any first or second hand experience with them?

Add another half-dozen on my end. Bull elk at 490, three whitetail beyond 300, and two aoudad out to 420, and the elk was the only one who didn't drop at the shot. He jumped maybe 10 feet and was down in seconds. The 147 ELD-M at PRC velocities is the most impressive terminal bullet I've used.

Impressive terminal bullet is exactly what it is. The furthest I killed an animal with that bullet was 309. The rest have been much closer. Just not sure I like the meat damage it can cause at closer ranges compared to Barnes and accubond bullets I’ve reloaded in other caliber rifles. I’ve used the 147s for 4 years now and haven’t changes loads so maybe that should tells me something

I’m not usually hunting with a creedmoor, but have a loaner with partitions and a relative hunts with one, which everyone has been happy with. My friends who use the bullet aren’t really the autopsy photo type - it’s such a reliable bullet it’s rather boring to talk about. The front 1/3 of the Partition is much softer than many think and it opens quite readily. Comparing the front 1/3 of a 140 gr Ballistic Tip and the Partition shows the jacket thicknesses are quite similar. Partitions just stop expanding sooner.
