9.6oz suppressor and a 19oz Vx5HD. The rifle is advertised at 6lbs 7oz. If my math is correct it should spec out to about 9lbs
I set one of these up for my wife a while back, with the same scope as well. It’s very accurate, but I’m set up to reload so ammo availability isn’t much of a concern for me.Thanks for everyone’s input! I went with the 6.5prc proof elevation mtr with a nomad ti suppressor and a vx5. Found some factory hornady ammo too
My 6.5 CM hits 1800 fps @ 800 yards (129 gr ABLR hand load). My 6.5 PRC hits 1800 fps @ 1100 yards (147 gr ELD-M hand load).I’m kicking around adding a new rifle to the stable. I reload and have a handful of sub MOA loads for my 6.5 Creedmoor. I hunt deer at typical ranges with the slight chance of a 500 yard poke.
I’m considering a PRC but I’m not sure it’s worth it considering my Creedmoor does everything I want it without much fuss.
Maybe I’ll do a .270 Tikka T3x Ultralite with the 22” barrel and have a sub 8 lb rifle. vs a 24” barrel Tikka PRC.

I have another 6.5 CM that I only use commercial ammo. With 143 gr Precision Hunter it hits 1800 fps @ 775 yards. With 147 gr ELD-M it hits 1800 fps @ 825 yards.
Long story short: the oft maligned 6.5 CM can reach out a healthy ways.
A 270 Win will get you to 1800 fps around 800 yards (variable due to rifle specifics and final load).
Bigger doesn’t always mean better.Ammo is geting more avilable.
I'd buy a 300 Winchester or 300 PRC. I don't see the point of the 6.5 CM or 6.5 PRC when bigger calibers are available.
Elk rifles begin at .308

Speaking as someone with both I would probably get the 270. Differences under 500 yds won't be meaningful. Easier and cheaper to pick up ammo. Get a good brake for the tikka and a limbsaver pad - will shoot like a 243 but drop game like a stone. Dropped this hog where it stood.I’m kicking around adding a new rifle to the stable. If one primarily hunts deer sized game, those rounds are overkill. Generally, you end up with a heavier gun and/or more recoil just end up with an animal that is just as dead and possibly has more damaged meat.I'd buy a 300 Winchester or 300 PRC. I don't see the point of the 6.5 CM or 6.5 PRC when bigger calibers are available.

And totally not needed. I have 3 .300 win mags and have killed a bunch of elk with them. But I don't uses them for deer and I have seen a bunch of elk die from sub .308 calibers. They were just as dead as the ones I've killed.Actually it's all been zebras, sambar or slightly sub elk sized African game.
Bigger gun is a bigger gun!
and don't forget also that it is the 21st century .308...factory ammo will be the most readily available over all others for the next 100 years, and it will be affordable ammo so you can shoot a lot, combine that with it's a barrel life champ...it will be one of the longest wearing barrels for anything short action or bigger, only the extra short action cartridges that burn about 11 grains less powder will wear longerYep the truth always settles in and the 6.5 Creedmoor does all I need.
Form, I'd be curious to know your take on the OP's question ...How many elk have you killed and with what below “.308” to form this opinion?

Frank is touting the 6.5 PRC as a better hunting option, but acknowledges that he doesn't hunt much.
Having seen the evidence here for the Creed, I'm with the OP in not being sure what the contexts would be, if any, that would warrant the PRC 'in real life'.
I’m not Form and I only hunt whitetail. I have a 6.5 Creedmoor Tikka T3x that shoots 5 shot groups at 100 yards that you can cover with a quarter.
I’m buying a 6.5 PRC because it will have less drop and wind drift with the recoil similar to a 270.
