5MM Easton Axis - Match Grade (Are they the Best?)

are the 5MM Axis Match Grade the best arrow out? i am shopping for a new hunting arrow and i see alot of people using the Axis. really looking for what everyone's thoughts on the Axis vs FMJ or any GoldTips are.

also does anyone know if the Axis Match Grade comes in a smaller diameter.

"Best" is very subjective and depends on a long list of factors.

But, if you just want a good arrow and don't want to worry about it, and focus on other things - great choice. Hard to go wrong.

I will most likely be hunting with an Axis 300 this year - 75 grain brass insert, 100 grain heads.

Axis does not come smaller. My opinion : I don't like 4mm arrows becaus of components. Much easier to stay with the 5mm series.

I just ordered the Victory RIP TKO's, i like the Axis but if i build the same arrow in both at my desired weight i end up with 8% FOC with the Axis and 13.5% with the RIP for the same weight arrow. I will be using the Axis brass 50gr inserts and Iron will SS 25gr collars on the Victorys.

I prefer the axis to the FMJ. No experience with Gold Tip shafts so cant help there.

I mean what is best to you? They are just tighter tolerances than the regular axis (.001 vs .003). There are a ton of other shafts out there with the same tolerances. Black Eagle has the tightest (I believe) if that's what determines the shaft you buy. They measure their .001 across the entire uncut shaft where Easton picks 28" across the shaft to get their tolerance measurement

I shot standard Axis for a couple years but I've had great luck with Rampages over the last 3 seasons (maybe 4) but have never used the Axis match grade. The standard Axis shafts just had noticable wobble and weight tolerances weren't the greatest, but they were WAY better than the GT Kaos I tried. But I'd bet the Axis Match Grade shafts have far better tolerances than the standard Axis shafts and are a little more durable than the BE Rampage, at least the standard Axis are IME. But ultimately I'm with nphunter, the only reason I'm not switching to the Match Grades is that the heavier GPI of the Axis 300 makes me a little heavier than I'd like and less FOC than I want. Really there are a lot of good shafts out there all with pluses and minuses, you just gotta find the ones that give you what you want, be it Victory, Easton, BE, Gold Tip, or maybe even another brand. The only thing I wouldn't consider is a half-out insert, the HITs are awesome. I use them in my Rampages and the half-outs they come with (as well as the BE nocks) go in the garbage.

this is all great info. i was using the GoldTip hunter pros but i am in the mood to change things up this year. i just see alot of people on this website talking about the Axis.

I am back to shooting axis arrows. I think they are the best arrow I’ve shot.

300 spine 100 grain point, 50 grain insert and 25 grain iron will footer. Four fletched with bohning x2 vanes.

Match grade 300’s are a great choice, I have them and 300 RIP TKO elites and they are both excellent, as stated before the gpi is heavier in the axis so you can put more weight up from on the RIP with less total weight I ran 75 of brass and 125 heads with the victory and they were lighter than the axis with 50 of brass and 125 heads cut an inch shorter. I don’t think one flies better or is tougher from what I’ve found just different weight distribution

I run the same setup. I will probably get some match grade when I need more arrows.

I haven't tried the Match Grade yet, but I sure hope they're better than their regular grade. If they aren't, I might be back to the ACC's for everything. I like a very tough durable arrow, but accuracy reigns supreme.

Plus one on the TKOs. When I was making my decision between the Victory’s and Axis (had been using the Axis at that point for years) an ex-Hoyt shooter was in the shop. He said that if you fling your arrows a lot the full carbon TKOs will hold their tolerances longer of many many shots. So that’s what I went with cause I try to shoot a lot.

Now I never went and verified if they were full carbon so I could be blowing smoke up your skirt.

I'd take an arrow with a higher GPI than higher FOC on account of the correlation of weight and durability.

Anybody ever had an issue with the axis arrows squeaking when they draw back? I got regular ones right now and want to get the match grade this year but a little unsure because of the squeak

This would be a comparison against the FMJ arrows (valid) , not the carbon axis.
