500 gr. Plus arrow setups

After having shooting light arrows for years I picked up a nitrum turbo this year with the end goal of shooting a heavy arrow "quickly".

My goal is to have a finished arrow weight of around 550gr give or take.

For those that run a heavy arrow setup, what is your go to arrow.

I will be running 125gr heads and would like to stick with 300 spine arrows.

I am wondering what people are using I know it is popular to stick around the 430-450gr mark.

I'm buying the 300 gt kinetics after this season to try.

With a 125g head all up will be right around 500g based on a 28 inch arrow

You are going to have to add additional weight up front to get to 550g

I shoot BE Rampage and love them.. with 50g insert and 100g head 300/29.5" I'm at about 430g. So with a 75g insert and 125g head (both easy to do) you should hit 490g or so..

How long an arrow do you use?

I have some new custom made BE Rampages with 75g brass inserts, 300 spine, 29.5", right helical blazers if you're interested.. Paid over $200 for them.. Their FOC is insane.. After I bought them I realized I needed a lower spine lol

I am shooting goldtip 7595s out of my hoyt Faktor turbo with 80lb limbs. My total arrow weight is 563 grains. They are cut to 27" with gold tip 100 grain brass insert, 125 grain tip, 10.6 gpi (camo version for extra weight) and 4 fletched with 7" wrap.

GT Kinetics 300's cut to 26". 75 grain hit inserts with GT ballistic collar and 125 grain tip. 3 blazers and bohning A nock. 506 grains. I used to shoot light arrows as well. I like shooting the heavier arrows. More forgiving and quieter.

If you're not set on .300 spine going to a stiffer spine will allow you to manipulate insert and point weight and get the total arrow weight you want much easier. With a drop away rest a stiff shaft is rarely a problem and I've found them easier to tune.

My moose arrow this year is a Good Tip Kinetic Big Game .200 spine with a 50 gr brass insert, a 150 grain broadhead and 15 gr footing made from a 2213 aluminum that strengthens the transition from the shaft to the insert. I believe they've got a solution for this now but I had the aluminum shafts to make my own.

Total weight is 566 grains and it shoots 269 FPS out of my 70# Carbon Spyder at 30 1/4" draw.

Shooting Easton Axis 260 spine arrows, 29.25 inches with 75 grain HITT inserts. BH is 225 grain Helix. Total wt is 670 grains that provices approximately 74 lbs of kinetic energy. FOC is around 21 or so.

The set up is slow, 65lb draw wt shooting the arrow around 225 fps. Super quiet and my field tips hit right where the HD's do. I'm not worried about making a mistake on my elk hunt and hitting that shoulder. This puppy should blow right thru it. I've decided momentum is more important than speed.

I am not stuck on a 300 spine, I like a stiffer spine.

My current hunting arrow is a gt velocity at 385- 420grains depending on fetching and broad head. I figured going to 500 -550gr arrow would be a nice step up.

Carbon Tech Rhinos in the 300 spine would get you there with a little tip weight behind your 125's. The FOC would be good and carbon tech arrows rock, they are a very overlooked and underrated arrow in my opinion. Very tough and some of the most consistent spines I have ever seen tested on a spine tester.

I prefer more FOC as opposed to overall arrow weight. These kinds of discussions usually go around full circle several times I've found out...

I know what you mean about the turbo and shooting a heavier arrow faster - to me, that's a distinct advantage of having the turbo, you can have some serious "thumping" ability behind your arrow. Currently, I'm shooting an arrow that weighs 400 grs, 16% FOC, and chronos at 305 fps (not a turbo bow). We'll see how it does on an elk in a couple of weeks, hopefully.

Flys great and penetrates even better.

I'm shooting a Nitrum Turbo with Maxima Red 350's at 28.5", 100gr TopHat insert and 100gr Muzzy. Arrow weight at 502gr. Fly like darts!

I'm really liking the looks of those VPA Penetrator 250 grain heads at 1 1/4"

I have Axis 260's and 340's, depending on the insert weights I should be able to make it work, thinking about trying them for next year.
