Whats out there for a 4-16 scope around 4-5-600 bucks that dials MOA for elevation that has a turret that isnt easily bumped off or even better a turret that locks ? I run a Vortex Viper HSLR 4-16x50 and like it but it seems the folks of rokslide hate vortex. Suggestions ? And no - I wont save for swaro zeiss and other 900 dollar scopes .

Yep, 3-15 SWFA or better yet 4-16 Zeiss V4 if you can spring for a $700 demo. Have both dig both

I think on the vortex website u can order a custom turret for the viper scopes. I know if seen them just not sure if it was on their website. They’re pretty bad ass but I have to have all ur bullet info before u order.

Ive got an Arken 4-14 that is shockingly good and well under budget. Affordable scopes don't typically inspire confidence when it comes to turret feel but the Arken excels.

I have the SWFA. It checks all your boxes.
I am very interested in the Zeiss.

Unless your Vortex is not giving you what you want I’d just keep it. All know there’s a lot of Vortex haters on here but I wouldn’t let them get to you. I’m personally not a huge fan of Vortex but I have owned a few of them and still currently have 4-5 any where from $300 to $1500. I have never had an issue with them, not saying issues aren’t out there but there’s issues out there with every optics manufacturer. I’ve personally sent back a NF ATACR and a Swaro x5i recently for repairs so even the really high end optics have their issues.
Hope this helps you out but if you’re looking to move on to something different, I’d take a strong look at a used Zeiss V4.

When the SWFA goes on sale for $399 it’s arguably the best deal in optics, as is the 3-9 HD for $450.

Natchez has the Weaver Tactical 3-15x50 FFP illuminated enhanced Mildot for for $533 on sale. The glass is made in Japan, 30mm tube, and the turrets are in MOA. I have a Weaver Tactical 4-20 FFP with 0.1 Mil click turrets and it is the best glass I have seen for under $1000. The glass is brighter than my XTR II and much brighter than a Vortex Viper I had. The Weaver scope I have holds zero and tracks great on a 6.5 CM Savage. I have used it to shoot steel past 1000 yards. I think the Japanese glass at $533 is a steal.

I’m considering the same issue with that scope. Looking at getting a turret built for it and/or taping a chart to the stock with clicks. So the scope may move in mils, but I can range, then dial yardage or just count clicks. Not sure about it, but am starting to look at that. Kenton does make turrets for it. I’ve only ever used moa, so I am not going to learn mils.

I think you guys are over complicating this. I have lots of scopes, probably 2/3 MOA and the other 1/3 Milradian. Get a free app and build each rifle a basic dope/drop chart for its favorite load. Then, once confirmed, dial the given value. See below if still confused...

I hold wind in inches but that’s subjective. Bottom line is there is really no mental gymnastics between minutes and mils, just build a chart and dial accordingly. Every rifle I own had a dope chart taped to its stock. Makes it easy to range, dial, and send it.

How do you hold 15” at 500 yards?
That’s where I have issues with mils. Am very used to a 1-2 moa hash, no thinking needed for that part. One less conversion I guess. I use mine for hunting and I know if there was time pressure, my chance for error goes up exponentially unless I stick to what I’ve used for years. If I was ringing steel, would not bother me to have charts or use an app, but not always time when hunting. I’ll probably wait for a moa scope for the rifle I thinking of.
